ASSESSMENT:
PW was captured in civilian clothing. Physical condition - good. He was cooperative. Information seems reliable.

MILITARY HISTORY:
Inducted on 17 Aug 50 at CHIN NAM PO (鎭南浦) and attached to 64th Arty Bn. The 64th Bn (340 men) departed CHIN NAM PO on 25 Aug 50 and arrived CHOR WON (鐵原) on 5 Sep 50, travel by train and on foot. Approx 8 km SW of CHOR WON there were two other Bns of troops (approx 860 men). These were also part of 632 Unit and one Bn was Inf and the other an Engr Bn. On 16 Sep 50 three Bns (64th Arty Bn, Engr Bn, Inf Bn) of 120 mm departed CHOR WON, arrived KYONG KI (京妓) Middle School in SEOUL on 20 Sep 50. At KYONG KI Middle School there were approx 6,000 additional troops being armed. This ms one of the replacement centers in SEOUL city.
The Inf Bn was armed with rifles and submachine guns. Engr Bn was believed to be armed in the same way. These two Bns of 860 men departed KYONG KI Middle School on night of 20 Sep 50 to an unk front.
Six men of 340 men of 64th Arty Bn were armed with rifles. On 22 Sep 50 the 64th Arty Bn departed SEOUL for SIN CHON by foot. Subject believes that intention was to relieve the unit at the front. Objective was not accomplished. The 64th Arty Bn received orders from higher HQ to return and assemble at Korean Government General Building in SEOUL. They returned, one platoon at a time because of the danger from air raids. PW's platoon was strafed by US fighter planes and was disorganized. Subject hid inside one of the village houses and was captured later by the Security Police.

FOREIGN ELEMENTS:
At CHOR WON (鐵原) on 7 Sep 50 one Russian field grade officer accompanied by North Brigadier General and many other officers inspected the barracks and troops of 64th Arty Bn.

ARMOUR:
On the morning of 24 Sep 50 PW saw 3 (76 mm) guns in the bills east of SIN CHON. Food and ammo were transported during night by trucks.

MORALE:
Morale of officers and EMs low because every man resented being ordered to fight without weapons. Officers and BM of 64th Arty Bn both had intentions of surrendering. EM stated openly in front of the officers that they were going to surrender.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The were guerrillas in SIN CHON armed with shot guns, swords and daggers. Most North Koreans think the South Koreans’ are better off economically and envy their system of government.
The TEI DON CHUL GYO (大同鉄橋) bridge over the TAE DONGKUNG (大同江) river leading into PYONG YANG was bombed on or about 5 Jul 1950 but trains were still running over the bridge when subject last saw it on 20 Aug 50.
On 10 Sep 50 at CHOR WON the 64th Arty Bn Commander told the men that they were part of 632 Unit. Code name of 64th Arty Bn was SUSHONFA (水仙花). Code name of Inf Bn was MUJUNFA (無電花). Code name of Engr Bn was BON SON FA (鳳仙花).
