The bn was commanded by a Major. On 13 Aug 50 the entire 1st Bn departed SANGJU for SEOUL to receive military training.
On 18 Aug 50 after 6 days of train rides and night marching the 1st Bn arrived in SEOUL where they engaged in training for approx one month. On 26 Sept 50 the 1st Bn was given orders to advance to the battle front. At this time PW deserted. The 1st Bn was equipped with rifles only.
Throughout his military service PW had no knowledge as to where the 1st Div or any of the 1st Div units were located (other than the 1st Bn of the 1st Regt).
On 26 Sep 50 PW observed about 50 Russian T-34 and Joseph Stalin tanks and about 60 artillery guns (similar to 122mm gun M-1931/37 identified in the Red Army Book) entering SEOUL from the northeast.
The artillery guns were being pulled by Russian made trucks.
