T/O & E AND STRENGTH:Psychological Warfare Section:
The Psychological Warfare Section (敵工部) with 5 officers and 5 men was organized in each division o/a 1 Sep 50. The function of the section was as follows:
(1) Impress the troops to take more UN PW’s.
(2) Distribute propaganda leaflets.
(3) To try to convert PW' s to communism.
(4) To keep record of each PW.
(5) To gather positive information by interrogation of PW.
LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNITS: (21 Sep 50)The 15th Div was slowly being pushed back by HOK Forces near HAPTOK RI (合德里)
The 5th and 12th Divisions were located to the E of 15th Div. The 103rd Indep Regt (composed of troops of Ministry of Interior and 8th Division was located to the W of 15th Division.
PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:Inducted 16 Jul 50 at PYONGYANG. Commissioned Lt upon induction.
Departed PYONGYANG 16 Jul 50, marched - arrived NIPAM RI 13 Sep 50.
While at ANDONG and UISONG, PW worked at organizing Peoples Committee in towns and villages of those areas.
Joined the 15th Div at NIPAM RI on 13 Sep 50.
Division retreated to HAP TOK RI on 21 Sep 50.
PW ordered to UISONG to pick up replacement troops for 15th Division.
PW captured 241400 K Sep 50; 12 Km N NE of UISONG bv ROK 21st Regt, 8th Division.
PERSONALITIES:NAME: KIM, Chaek (金策) CO, Front line Hq.
NAME: MU, Chong (武亭) Lt Gen, CG II Corps.
REPLACEMENTS:Approx 70% of troops in 15th Div was South Korean conscripts.
ARMOR & ARTILLERY:Heard on 20 Sep 50, that approx 30 arty pieces were still being used by 15th Division.
GENERAL INFORMATION:II Corps was composed of the 1st Div, 5th Div, 12th Div, 8th Div, 13th Div and 15th Division.
Sixteen (16) PW's from ROK 10th Regt, 8th Div were captured by 15th Div during the period from 13 Sep 50 to 21 Sep 50.
At times PW's were released to go back to their own units to gather information or to persuade others to surrender. PW's were paid (5,000 to 10,000 won) when they were sent on such mission.
Leaflets were written by fathers and mothers of ROK troops and were distributed to divisions from Corps. Leaflets were distributed to regiments to be left behind when the unit retreated.
