3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
20 Jul 50: Inducted into the NKA at SEOUL. On this date, 30 doctors of the SEOUL University Hospital were drafted. Originally the hospital staff consisted of about 200 doctors but o/a 20 Aug 50, PW heard that with the exception of about 50 aged doctors, all others had been drafted for service in the NKA. 30 doctors reported to Security Forces Hqs in SEOUL for assignment. PW and one other physician were ordered to TAEJON and departed by truck.
26 Jul 50: Reported to 2nd Security Forces Command Hqs and was assigned to the Hqs Dispensary. PW noticed that essential equipment and supplies were lacking and was told that all medical supplies with the exception of gauze, bandages, sulphanilamide and tincture of iodine were to be procured locally. About one truck load of the above supplies was available.
26 Jul 50-3 Sep 50: Since the dispensary was responsible for the health of only 200 officers and men of the Command Hqs, the number of patients was negligible, The organization of the Security Forces, 2nd Command Hqs Dispensary was as follows: Chief Medical Officer - Capt, Medical Officers - two (2) Sr Lt, Head nurse - Jr Lt. No others. The subordinate units of the 2nd Command Hqs were the 102nd Security Regt stationed in North CH’OLLA DO (全羅道), 104th Security Regt in South KYONGSANG-DO (慶尙道), 105th Security Regt in South CH’OLLA-DO (全羅道) and the 106th Security Regt in South CHUNGCH’ONG DO (忠淸道). The Dispensary was not responsible for the patients of the subordinate units since all cases were evacuated directly to the NKA Field Hospitals.
3 Sep 50: Security Forces 2nd Command Hqs moved from TAEJON to KWANGJU (光州).
3 Sep 50-28 Sep 50: 106th Security Regt was placed under direct control of Security Forces Hqs in SEOUL.
28 Sep 50: At about 0400 hours, personnel were alerted and told to make preparations for withdrawal. All equipment was left behind. The Commanding Officer, Chief of Staff, Operations Officer, Cultural Officer and the Supply Officer departed in jeeps, leaving the other personnel. All personnel loaded on trucks and departed for TAEJON. Upon arrival at T’AEIN, the group was told by a NKA soldier that CHONJU was occupied by the enemy. Consequently the group proceed to IMSIL. Location of commanding officer and staff unk.
29 Sep 50: Arrived IMSIL at about 0500 hours. american tanks were in the vicinity so the trucks were destroyed and the personnel took to the hills east of IMSIL.
30 Sep 50: The group arrived in the hills immediately east of CHINAN. Next objective was MUJU. PW became separated from the group.
2 Oct 50: Arrived TAEJON via KUMSAN and was captured by US troops.

Morale:
Prior to the INCHON landing, the morale of the 2nd Command Hqs personnel was extremely high. Since then, PW noticed that all of the officers were not as confident as they had been. The equipment taken by the officers during the withdrawal indicated that their only intentions were to withdraw northward without fighting. Since the commanders departed alone, the subordinate units will not be able to coordinate their actions. Since the majority of the troops of the security units were South Koreans, poorly equipped and trained, it is very unlikely that they would put up any resistance. PW noticed that military discipline was at extremely low level even among the headquarters guards.

Equipment:
PW noticed that all of the personnel of the 2nd Command Hqs were armed. They had pistols, rifles, one LMG and one HMG.

Code Numbers:
2nd Command Hqs - 9622 (軍部隊)
