3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
10 Nov 49: Inducted NKPA at MANP'OJIN (930-2080) (滿浦鎭).
22 Nov 49 - 30 May 50: Received basic training SINUIJU. Training consisted of medical first aid - bandaging. Assigned to unit to promoted to Sr Sgt.
15 Jun 50: Departed SIB'YONGNI (市辺里) marched and arrived SEOUL 30 Jun 50 with the 1st Div.
31 Jun 50: 1st Div departed SEOUL, marched and arrived KUNWI 7 Aug 50 via ICH'ON (利川), CHANGHOWON-NI (長湖院里), CH'UNGJU (忠州), MUN'GYONG (聞慶) and HAMCH'ANG (咸昌).
7 Aug 50: PW departed KUNWI because he was suffering from malaria and went to SEOUL for medical care; arrived SEOUL 2 Aug.
17 Aug 50: At MUN'GYONG and HAMCH'ANG engaged ROK troops for 13 days. Number of wounded or killed unknown as PW was suffering with malaria.
1 Sep 50: PW discharged from SEOUL Hospital with 30 slightly wounded officers form various Divs. Also was promoted to Jr Lt.
1 Sep 50: PW and 30 officers were ordered to report to the 39th Brigade, TAEJON.
14 Sep 50: PW and 30 officers arrived TAEJON. He was assigned to 39th Brigade, 5th Bn, Medical Plt. T/O & E fo 5th Bn Medical Plt as follows:
1 Officer - PW officer in charge - Not a Medical Officer
1 M/Sgt - Medical NCO
1 Sr Sgt - Medical NCO
6 Pvts - Medical Aidmen (field)
1 Pvt - Look after horse that transport wounded men to first aid station.
All EM are armed with M1983 carbine in the field while performing their duties. All Medical aidmen wore the Red Cross brassard. Medical aidmen were, as far as PW knew, never fired on by the enemy.
28 Sep 50: Medical Plt personnel were used as carpenters because there were no medical supplies.
29 Sep 50: 39th Brigade retreated to CHOCH'IWON but because of American troops coming into CHOCH'IWON they again retreated to TAEJON. Could not make good their retreat to TAEJON and retreated to CHONGJU where they were captured by UN forces (4 officers and 5 pvts).
29 Sep 50: When the American troops entered TAEJON they captured 10 T-34/85 tanks.

Unit History:
The 39th Brigade is a newly organized unit and was organized in TAEJON. Strength fo 8,000 men at the time of capture. All EM were recruited from TAEJON and vicinity. No training received by men as there was no equipment to train with. They were told equipment would soon arrive from SEOUL.

Morale and Propaganda:
The morale of the PW's medical unit was low because there was no medical supplies. Wounded men were sent to ANDONG. No wounded received in TAEJON.
