PW served with the Japanese Army for a year in JAPAN. PW was captured by ROK Forces. Not recommended for further interrogation.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
18 Sep 49 - PW was inducted into the NKPA at KANGGYE and received 10 days of basic infantry training. He was then assigned to 547th Border Guard Unit.
29 Sep 49 - Arrived at MANP'OJIN (滿浦鎭). The 547th Border Guard Unit was composed of three (3) companies. Total strength, 500 men.
27 Jun 50 - Departed MANP'OJIN by train.
29 Jun 50 - The 547th Border Guard Unit when it arrived in CH'ONGJU was immediately deactivated.
30 Jun 50 - PW arrived at MUHAK (舞鶴) Girls' High School located 4 km E of SEOUL, together with four (4) other men. Assigned to a guard unit at the PW Camp located here.
This PW Camp was a processing camp where all PsW were processed before being transferred to a permanent PW Camp. PW observed 150 US PsW and approx 2,000 ROK PsW confined here during the month of Jul 50. After processing, US PsW were transferred to a PW Camp in P'YONGYANG and the ROK PsW were transferred to HOERYONG (會寧).
27 Jul 50 - PW departed MUHAK for SEOUL. Promoted to Jr Lt (少尉) and was assigned to the 104th Security Regt, 23rd Bn, HMG Co, as a platoon leader.
29 Jul 50 - The 104th Security Regt departed SEOUL on foot.
15 Aug 50 - They arrived in SACH'ON.
25 Sep 50 - Received orders to retreat to CHINJU. At CHINJU the 23rd Bn CO ordered the men to retreat to OKCH'ON. The 104th Security Regt became completely disorganized and PW proceeded north with 7 men.
29 Sep 50 - PW was discovered by ROK Forces on the mountain near CH'ONGSAN (靑山) and he was captured together with the 7 men from his platoon.
Unit Organization and Strength:
Last Known Composition of Unit: (as of 25 Sep 50): The 23rd Bn of the 104th Security Regt was composed of three (3) rifle companies, HMG Co, 82-mm Mortar Co, Medical Platoon, Signal Plt, and Transport Plt. The total strength was approximately 500 men and its composition was as follows:
100 men - Regular NKPA personnel
100 men SK conscripts from SEOUL Area
300 men - SK conscripts form CHINJU Area who were sent to SEOUL for induction
The HMG Co of the 23rd Bn, 104th Security Regt did not have a regular CO, so the PW was appointed as acting CO. The HMG Co was composed of BO men. 72 men were SK conscripts from CHINJU Area. When ordered to withdraw, PW stated he disbanded his HMG Co and proceeded north together with 7 men who were conscripts drafted from SEOUL Area.
Equipment:
As of 25 Sep 50, the HMG Co, 23rd Bn, 104th Security Regt had 1 US LMG without any ammunition and 5 rifles with 200 rounds of ammunition. PW states that the 23rd Bn, 104th Security Regt did not have any mortars. All men of the rifle companies had rifles but ammunition was very scarce.
Unit History:
PW believes that the 104th Security Regt was organized 24 Jul 50, at SEOUL. The Code Number of the 104th Security Regt was 6084.

Morale and Propaganda:
Majority of the troops were men conscripted in S. KOREA and their morale was very low. Lack of equipment and food were also big factors in lowering the morale of the troops. PW never saw a US propaganda leaflet.
4. GENERAL:PW states that the US PsW interned at MUHAK received 3 meals a day consisting of biscuits and canned meat or vegetables plus 1 pack of cigarettes. They were never put on any details.
