3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
24 Jul 50 - PW was inducted into the NKPA at P'YONGYANG and was immediately enrolled at No 1 OCS in P'YONGYANG.
25 Aug 50 - PW commissioned Jr Lt after a month of training in telephone communications, together with 59 other signal officers.
26 Aug 50 - The 60 graduating officers departed P'YONGYANG by truck.
29 Aug 50 - Arrived at SEOUL.
1 Sep 50 - A group of 30 signal officers and 200 recruits departed SEOUL by train. 15 officers were ordered to join Ⅰ Corps, the other 15 officers were ordered to join Ⅱ Corps.
6 Sep 50 - Arrived at CH'UPUNGNYONG (秋風嶺) and immediately started marching.
9 Sep 50 - Arrived at KUMCH'ON (金泉). The 2 groups of officers became separated and 15 signal officers and 100 enlisted men headed for SANGJU on foot.
14 Sep 50 - Arrived at SANGJU and immediately departed after receiving orders to proceed to HYOPCH'ON where the Ⅰ Corps Hq was located.
23 Sep 50 - Arrived at KOCH'ANG and 3 members of the group proceeded ahead to contact Ⅰ Corps Hq.
24 Sep 50 - Received orders from Corps Hq to retreat north towards KUMCH'ON. However, PW heard from a member of a tank unit that KUMCH'ON was already occupied, so he proceeded towards TAEJON together with 20 enlisted men.
30 Sep 50 - 12 km NW of TAEJON, PW together with 5 EM surrendered to US Forces who were proceeding along the highway on trucks.

Dispositions:
PW heard that the Ⅰ Corps Hq was located on a mountain 4 km N of HYOPCH'ON (as of 24 Sep 50).

Morale and Propaganda:
The group of 15 signal officers and 100 EM were all high school students who had been conscripted into the NKPA. They did not possess any spontaneous will to fight and many of the EM and some of the officers deserted the group while enroute from SEOUL to HYOPCH'ON.
PW read a US Safe Conduct Pass and showed it to other members of his group and made plans to surrender if and when an opportunity permitted them to do so.

4. GENERAL INFORMATION:
PW states that the regular training period at the No 1 OCS was one year for signal officers, but under an accelerated program they were graduated in one month. The one month course in telephone communication consisted of studies in theory of electricity and telephone communications. They were required to put in 10 to 12 hours of study and practical field training a day.
