2. ASSESSMENT:
This PW was of average intelligence and very cooperative. Was more nationalistic than anything else. He still wonders why a picture of STALIN, who is non-Korean, always appears beside KIM Il Song's.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
1 Aug 50: Inducted into Training Regt (敎導聠隊) at CHAERYONG (載寧). Immediately transferred to HWANGJU (黃州) for one month training.
7 Sep 50: Transferred to SEOUL where PW was assigned to 110th Security Regt, 42nd Bn, 1st Co and immediately commissioned Jr Lt.
17 Sep 50: 110th Security Regt, which then included only Regt CO, C of S, and 50 Jr Lts and 50 NCOs departed SEOUL the following day and arrived at KOCH'ANG (居昌) on 17 Sep 50.
20 Sep 50: 110th Security Regt's intention was to recruit 3,000 local men, but as of this date, only 130 men were recruited.
25 Sep 50: Regt evacuated this area to a point 3 km S of MUJU where CO ordered the Regt disbanded and its personnel to make their way the best they could.
27 Sep 50: PW realizing the futility of attempting to return to NK sought out ROK troops to whom he surrendered.

Unit History:
110th Security Regt (50 officers and 50 NCOs) activated in SEOUL 7 Sep 50. According to hearsay, the Regt along with the 111th Security and 112th Security Regts was attached to Security Hqs in SEOUL. Also heard that one of the other two regiments was stationed in or around TAEJON (大田).
All the officers of the 110th Security Regt (practically all students at the time of induction) were from NK. All the enlisted men of the Regt were to have been conscripted from the local population in South KOREA. At the time of recruiting personnel to fill its ranks in KOCH'ANG, the Regt had practically no weapons except 20-30 Jap Model 99 Rifles. The men were told that upon completion of the organization of the Regt, its personnel would be armed with captured American M-1 rifles. At the time the 110th Security Regt was disbanded at MUJU, its personnel strength was approx 50 officers, 50 NCOs (NK) and 130 EM recruited around KOCH'ANG.

Unit Organization:
The 110th Security Regt was composed of the 41st, 42nd and 43rd Bns. If the organization of the Regt had been completed, the battalions were to have been stationed at the following places:
41st Bn - MUJU (武朱)
42nd Bn - SANCH'ON-NI (山淸里)
43rd Bn - KOCH'ANG (居昌)

Organization and Training of HWANGJU Training Regt (黃州敎導隊):
Normally, this Training Regt was a school for the training of NCO candidates. However, since there was a dire shortage of junior officers and the two officers candidate schools in P'YONGYANG were filled to capacity, provisions were made in this case to form an officer candidate class within the above Training Regt.
At the time the PW graduated, the Officer's Candidate Class numbered 300 in two companies. The two companies were to graduate 1 Sep 50. All graduated with the rank of Jr Lt, with the exception of those who were demoted to the NCO Candidates Class.
Subjects covered included the following (the number of hours following the subjects are approximate) in 8 hour day, 6 days a week: Military tactics, 80 hrs (sqd and platoon tactics); small arms, 70 hrs (nomenclature and firing of US M-1 rifle and carbine, M1924/27 carbine, TT 1930 Automatic pistol, PPsh M1943 submachine gun, LMG and MAXIM HMG), military regulation, 38 hours, and dismounted drill, 20 hrs. NCO Candidate Class course was also one month. Although all the above subjects were covered, it was not as extensive and platoon tactics were omitted.
The officer candidates learned tactics direct from a translation of a Russian manual entitled "Combat Regulation" (戰鬪規定) published in 1946, but were frequently told that, in the event such tactics were not applicable in the field, to use their own judgment.
