Assessment:
Informant not very intelligent. Cooperative and talked willingly. Information limited.

Military History:
Date inducted 7 March 50, at S. SINUIJU (南新義州)
Training - Assigned to the Signal Section 3rd Bn, 23rd Regt at south SINUIJU. Basic training 3 months. General instruction on telephone communication from battalion to companies.
Tactical Movements:
17 Jun 50 - 23rd Regt (strength approx 2,600 including artillery; fully armed) departed S. SINUIJU by rail. 19th and 21st Regts departed on/about the same date.
29 Jun 50 - 23rd Regt arrived SARIWON.
29 Jun 50 - 23rd Regt departed SARIWON on foot. PW recalls only SEOUL and MUNGYONG on the march south. 23rd Regt remained in reserve. Two days after crossing NAKTONG River 23rd Regt plus supporting artillery was committed for the first time. Regt did not suffer any casualties in its march south and still maintained its original strength.
23rd Regt attacked along the main highway heading south towards T’AEGU. 3rd Bn sustained 50% casualties and PW heard that the other two battalions suffered similar casualties. ROK artillery accounted for most of the casualties.
At least 5 x T-34/85 tanks were attached to the 23rd Regt. Last observed these 5 tanks at a halt just off the main highway on 17 1700K Aug 50.
3rd Bn was completely disorganized by 18 Aug 50 and PW was captured by counterattacking ROK infantry.
Whereabouts of 19th and 21st Regts at this time, unknown.

Weapons and Personnel:
Signal Section - 1 Officer (Jr Lt) and 14 EM. Officer armed with a pistol. Bn armed with Russian rifles. Section equipped with 5 Russian telephones similar to the TAM Field Telephone. Immediately after beginning of war, only US telephones were used.

EEI:
3rd Bn Signal Section handled communication only within the battalion. Telephones were the main system of communication in the battalion.
