0830, 15 Aug 50, PW’s company contacted ROK troops. Separated from unit during artillery shelling and small arms fire. PW found himself and another private facing many ROK soldiers. Both put up their hands and surrendered.

Personalities:
No officers’ names known.

Foreign Elements:
Observed 1 Caucasian 10 Aug 50, wearing no shirt about 12 miles SE of the point where PW crossed NAKTONG River (洛東江) (location unknown), Presumed Caucasian to be Russian. Caucasian was talking to a group of Korean civilians.

Weapons and Personnel:
Div, Regt and Bn - unknown. 8th Co - 102 men, 2nd Plt - 37 men, Squad - 8 men.
Rifleman armed with US rifles Model 1903, 15 rounds, 1 grenade, Platoon leaders, pistols; Squad leaders, PPsh submachine guns.
One DP LMG in 8th Co.
Casualties unknown.
No Replacement of men or equipment (15 Aug 50)

Armor:
About 8 hours after crossing NAKTONG River, PW observed 3 Medium tanks (location unknown), about 12 Aug 50.

Artillery:
Observed 4 or 5 light artillery pieces (truck-drawn) in the vicinity where PW saw tanks, about 12 Aug 50.

Vehicles:
Saw about 30 x 2½ ton trucks in vicinity where PW observed artillery and tanks about 12 Aug 50. Trucks carried food, ammunition, and a few soldiers. Trucks departing N carried about 400 wounded soldiers. Observed about 10 horse carts and 5 ex carts bringing rice.

Supplies:
Received 2 or 3 rice balls per day. Confiscated any type of food obtainable in villages through which 5th Co passed.

Enemy Intention:
Objective was T’AEGU.
Saw no gas equipment. Received no gas training.

Additional Intentions:
Observed no guerrillas.
After arriving by railroad in SEOUL, 1st Div units separated. PW knows that about 800 men proceeded south first and presumes that the remainder followed soon after.
PW saw no Safe Conduct Passes or other leaflets.
