No. trucks, tanks or artillery observed. Artillery shelling from US-South Korean forces on cast banks. No casualties (PW’s statement very unreliable.) 4th Div, 5th and 16th Regts believed deployed in wooded area along West bank at river crossing point.
13 Aug (Approx) - 18th Regt units under constant attack by US-ROK forces. 5 men (including PW) from 2nd Bn, 6th Co, 1st Plt sent to rear area to guard against rear attack. Under increasingly heavy artillery attack 2 men returned to contact forward unit. did not come back. PW and 2 guards remained.
0600, 15 Aug - Trio obtained civilian clothes by force from refugees, entered empty village house. Rifles and military uniforms of trio were buried outside hut, they ate and went to sleep.
1300, 15 Aug - Captured in village hut by ROK troops.

Remarks:
PW stated reasons for changing into civilian clothing and hiding weapons were: fear of detection by US-ROK forces already in the area. Without uniforms, weapons could be carried without detection. Trio planned to sneak back to won unit. PW believed he would be killed if captured by US-ROK forces.

Red Cross Instructions:
PW’s unit received instructions from higher officers not to shoot at unarmed enemy Red Cross aidmen of vehicles so marked.
