Previous Military Service with Other Armies:
During the Japanese occupation, prisoner received compulsory military training in the Korean Young Men’s Coprs at WONSAN from August 1944 to August 1945. Instructors were from the Japanese 44th Butzi, stationed at HEIJO.

Circumstances of Capture:
On the 24th of June 6th Division departed from SARIWON by truck and passed through the towns of CHAERYONG and HAEJU, arriving in KAESONG on the 25th of June. Immediately they proceeded southward, when they came to IMJIN River, A-3 pneumatic floats (ponton) and river boats were used to transport trucks and other materials across. While crossing the IMJIN River small bands of South Korean army was encountered, however no damage was done. After all materials had been transported across the river, they proceeded south until they came to the HAN River, again the same procedure was taken in crossing the river, then they landed at KUMPO. Here they fought the South Korean army and pushed them to the south. The 6th Division proceeded to SUDONG-NI by truck via YONGDUNPO, SUWON, PYONGTAEK. YESAN, HONGSONG, TAECHON and crossed the KUM River to KUNSAN by A-3 pneumatic floats and river boats. At KUNSAN they encountered the South Korean Army, however casualties were very light. Then they proceeded by truck to SUNCHON via CHONJU and KWANGJU. At SUNCHON, they had a major battle with the South Korean Army. Prisoner observed about 150 wounded and dead in 671 Regiment area. Here the 6th Division took the offensive and fought South Korean Army all the was down to YOSU and returned back to SUNCHON. From here they proceeded to CHINDONG-NI by was of CHINJU and PANSONG. At PANSONG the 1st Battalion received heavy casualties by the American artillery and aircraft. Having rested for about five days the 4th Company departed from PANSONG. Then on the 2nd day the 4th Company encountered American troops. The battle lasted for several hours, at the time all firing ceased prisoner came out of hiding and observed and estimated more than half of the 4th Company troops were casualties. Just before retreating from the mountain, the Company Commander ordered the prisoner to carry his personal belongings, however, the prisoner did not, he said he was too weak to carry a load after the heavy fighting. Then he Company Commander took his rifle away and kicked him in the face (prisoner still had black-eye during interrogation) and told him the American troops are coming and that he was going to be killed and left. With tears in his eyes he walked down the mountain and came to a road he stood on the road side and was picked up the passing American jeep. He was stripped naked and taken to Headquarters somewhere in MASAN.
