Name: YUN SOK KUN (尹錫根)
Age: 17 years old
Address: KANGWON-Do, WONSAN-SHI-Er, MYONSASHIN-Ri
Rank: Pvt, Infantry
Length of service: 3 Jul 50 to 5 Aug 50

Interrogated by: SUGA

PW’s Unit:
2nd Battalion of a guard unit (no unit designation) organized at WONSAN, 3 Jul 50.
About 600 men entered unit 3 Jul 50, 400 men who were already in unit at that time had been in unit 3 or 4 months. (Sources heard this from one of these older members of unit), all Koreans.

Training:
Recruits that entered unit 3 Jul 50 received 10 days training on how to stand guard - no close order drill or marksmanship training.
All recruits come to TANYANG (just below 37th parallel, between 128° and 129° Long) in civilian clothes) received army clothing, rifle and 30 rounds of ammunition at TANYANG.

Movement:
Unit left WONSAN 14 Jul 50, by rail and arrived at 38th parallel near CHUNCHON (route unknown) after about 10 days train ride, traveling by night only. Troops hid in the mountains during the day. From there, they marched to CHUCHON by night and traveled from there to ANDONG via HONGCHON, WONJU and TANYANG, arriving there on 3rd or 4th Aug 50. The troops rested 1 day there and marched by night to the point 16 km south of ANDONG where source was captured. Source’s unit was attacked by artillery there. Source saw 7 or 8 trucks hidden by the side of the roads, attacked by aircraft during the day.
After leaving TANYANG, the unit followed an unknown combat unit that was fighting its way southward. As there were not enough trucks to move all the troops at one time, they made 2 or 3 round trips between stepping points.
At the point 16 km south of ANDONG, members of source’s unit were assigned to stand guard on the tops of mountains. The Company Commander of source’s Company told the troops that those were very important mountains in guarding the supply line.
