Subject was cooperative but illiterate. Reliability fair. Subject has not seen or heard of any surrender leaflets.

Military History:
Date inducted 17 Mar 50.
Training: Trained at Najin Democratic Young Men’s Training Center as member of 7th Training Regt, 15th Div. Training included dismounted drill, forced marches, manual of arms. No range practice or political training. Period of training 1 Apr to 30 May 50. 17 Mar 50 to 1 Apr 50 upon spent in constructing housing facilities. 1 Jun 50 to 12 Jul 50 spent in endurance training with wooden rifles. Rifles issued on 8 Jun 50. Troops taught maintenance of weapons only. Hqrs 15th Div situated in HOERYONG with 8th and 9th Training Regts. 7th Training Regt and an arty trng unit situated in NAJIN.
Tactical Movements:
22 Jun 50 - 7th Trng Regt departed NAJIN by rail. Arrived HERYONG 23 Jun. Entire 15th Div in HERYONG, strength unknown.
23 Jun 50 - 7th Trng Regt departed HERYONG. Other units of Div remained in HERYONG. Arrived CH’ORWON 26 Jun 50. 7th Trng Regt redesignated as 45th Regt.
From CH’ORWON the 45th Regt proceeded through CH’UNCH’ON and YOJU to KOESAN. At KOESAN the 45th Regt engaged ROK forces for a day and lost about 10 men. At KOESAN subject heard that the 2nd and 7th NK Dive were in area. After leaving KOESAN, subject does not know what route was followed by 45th Regt to KASAN-MYON or when or at what location the unit crossed NAKTONG River. However, subject vaguely remembers being in the mountains around KUMCH’ON and of crossing a knee deep, 100 meter wide river near there.
After crossing the river, the unit marched for about 8 dyas to KASAN-MYON. During the march, the NAKTONG River was visible daily. The 45th Regt arrived at KASAN-MYON 17 Aug 50. Joined by the 8th and 9th Trng Units on 18 Aug 50.
On 19 Aug 50, the 6th CO, 2nd Bn was dispatched SE to village on main highway. The purposed unknown. At the village, the company was attacked by ROK forces. When the company retreated, during the confusion, subject deserted and surrendered to an American patrol.

Subject observed 2 x JS-1 type heavy tanks 15 Aug 50 after crossing the NAKTONG River. The tanks were not damaged.

Artillery:
Subject observed 3 x 120mm M1943 mortars 19 Aug 50 at KASAN-MYON. No other artillery observed.

Capabilities of Unit:
Morale: Morale was very low among the privates because of the lack of food and reset. The men have been in the field for more than a month without a break and are tired. Desertions have increased, degree unknown.
Replacements: The unit has not received any replacements since leaving N. Korea.
Supplies: No information.
