Evaluation:
Interrogee spoke freely, but tactical information was unavailable. Interrogee stated that he is an anti-communist.

History:
Interrogee was working at the #2 Ordnance Depot in INCH’ON until the war broke out. Interrogee left INCH’ON on 28 Jun 50, and fled to PYONGTAEK via SUWON. Informant decided to go back to SEOUL because his mother and younger brothers and sisters were there. Informant reached his house on 20 Jul 50. For 5 days he hid in his house. Somehow the neighbors found out that he was back and they reported to the Korean Democratic Youth Association. About 5 men from the above association came to the home twice. Interrogee hid in the attic both times. The five men told his mother that her son must join the People’s Army. His mother told interrogee to go PUSAN where his aunt is living. Interrogee’s friend (who came along with him) made a forged pass for him and another friend. Interrogee and his 2 friends (PAK, YONG SIK (朴泳植 and LEE, HYO SUK 李涍淑) left SOEUL on 30 Jul 50.
Interrogee and 2 others reached KORYONG (1120-1420) 9n 9 Aug 50, via SUWON, P’YONGTEK, CHONAN, POUN and KUMCH’ON. They were stopped by N. Korean troops many times, but there were able to pass because they had forged passes.
At the (2100) Aug 50, they swam the NAKONG River. The morning of 11 Aug 50, interrogee and his two friends raised their hands and reported to American troops who where at the point (1143-1403) approx 14 km ENE of CHO’GYE (1143-1403).

PAK, YONG SIK (朴泳植): Age, 23; Occupation: Student of CHUNGANG (中央) University.
Lee, HYO SUK (李涍淑): Age 28; Occupation: Primary School together. (LEE, HYO SUK made forged passes for PAK, YONG SIK and the interrogee).

Foreign Elements:
Interrogee saw three Russians wearing civilian clothes in SEOUL on or about 28 Jul 50. Those three Russians were riding on a jeep with 2 N. Korean officers.

Weapons and Personnel:
Interrogee did not observe any large troop concentration, because the troops took cover in the mountains during the day.
About 30 N. Korean troops were stationed in each large town. Their duty was to guard the team.

Armor:
Interrogee observed 11 tanks (type unknown) on a train at SONGHWAN (1010-1500) approx 45 km 5 of SEOUL, on or about 1 Aug 50.

Additional Information:
The people in SEOUL were not able to pick up the leaflets dropped by the UN aircraft. The leaflets were gathered and burned by N. Korean security troops. Persons who picked up the leaflets were jailed.
Radios which have more than 4 tubes were confiscated by the N. Korean troops. The people were not able to hear the news.
