The Battalion Headquarters of the 2nd Battalion was at HWACHON and the Battalion Headquarters of another unidentified Battalion was at POKKEY-Ri. Some kind of Regimental Headquarters was located in PYONGGANG. Source and 10 other men were sent from POKKEY-Ri to HWACHON in January 1950. The Platoon leader of source’s Platoon in 2nd Battalion after he went to HWACHON, went to PYONGGNANG once every month. Secure heard from another soldier in his Battalion that Headquarters of the 3rd Division was at WONSAN.

Commanding Officer: 9th Regiment: KIM TAE WON (김대원) Col, Korean

Composition of Unit: (as of date unit left for South Korea)
90% of source’s Battalion were men who had entered the Battalion in either 1946, 1947 or 1948.
About 10% were recruits with 6 months training or less. All officers and men were Koreans; source did not hear any officers or EM in his Battalion speak of their experiences in MANCHURIA or CHINA.

Movements:
Source’s Battalion left HWACHON night of 13 June 1950 with the 9th Regiment. 1 Infantry Battalion and other Regimental elements directly attached to the 9th Regiment had come to HWACHON about 11 June; source heard from his squad leader that the other Infantry Battalion was to fellow later and that 7th and 8th had already left (date unknown). 9th Regiment never rendezvous with the other Regiment at any later date; source does not know where they went).
9th Regiment traveled over highways during first 2 days and marched through mountains rest of way to KYONGSONG, traveling by night only, hiding in the mountains during the day. There were 6 used YAG-4 trucks and 20 four-wheel wagons each pulled by 2 horsed in 9th Regiment at the time Regiment left HWACHON. They did not come with the troops after they entered the mountains. When source next saw these vehicles at SUWON, there were only 4 trucks and 14 wagons. One of the 6 trucks was carrying rice and bread; 3 other trucks were pulling a 120mm mortar resembling 160mm M1934 mortar in shape.
13 or 14 Artillery troops were riding on each of the trucks that were pulling the 120mm guns. The troops were sitting on some kind of cargo (Source did not see any filed guns or tanks). Source also saw 4x45mm M1942 guns, each pulled by 2 large horses and 5 four-wheel wagons each loaded with 2 HMGs; (2 large horses pulled each wagon). These 45mm guns and HMGs went with the trucks. Troops that traveled through the mountains did not have any HMG with them.
Troops had 600 grams of raw rice and 800 grams of dry bread as emergency rations. They ate this ration during the march to KYONGSONG. After the emergency ration was exhausted, supply Platoon brought up rice from the rear but source does not know where the Platoon got the rice.
Regiment rested 2 days in the mountains west of KYONGSON then marched trough the mountains to TAEJON, then on the NATKONG River via SUWON and KUMCHON. Regiment crossed the NAKTONG at a point 6 kilometers west of a mountain called SONGOKTONG.
Source last saw artillery at TAEJON.
On August 9, 1950, at 1100 hours the commander deserted from the unit. At 1200 the squad leader ran away also. PW was left behind because be was wounded. On the way to TAEJON, approximately 16 kilometers north of TAEJON, 4 UN aircraft strafed them. Assistant squad leader and one private of another unit were killed.
