Evaluation:
PW was cooperative and seemed fairly intelligent. Information was limited due to his short military service. Reliability - fair.

Military History:
Inducted 7 Jul 50 at P’YONGYANG. Approx 800 recruits left P’YONGYANG by train in the evening of 7 Jul 50 and reached SEOUL on 11 Jul 50 via WONSAN and YONCH’ON.
Independent Brigade was organized 14 Jul 50 at SEOUL.
They trained for 3 days (close order drill) at SEOUL. Four companies (approx 300 men) left SEOUL 14 Jul 50.
Remaining 5 companies (the 10th Bn, approx 500 men) including PW left SEOUL on the evening 16 Jul 50 by train and reached CH’UNCH’ON (春川) 17 Jul 50. Trained 9 days at CH’UNCH’ON (fired 3 rounds from Japanese rifle).
The 1st and 2nd Company (approx 250 men) left CH’UNCH’ON 25 Jul 50 on foot. PW did not know what happened to the 3rd, 4th and 5th Co which remained in CH’UNCH’ON.
The 1st and 2nd Company reached CH’ONG-SONG (1200-1500) on 12 Aug 50, via WONJU, TANYANG, YONGJU and ANDONG. (After PW was captured, he heard from company commander that the Independent Brigade was redesignated the 1st Regt when they reached CH’ONG-SONG.)
The 1st and 2nd Cos took up positions on a mountain located S of TAEJON-DONG (approx 1203-1497).
PW and 7 others were separated from their unit after battle on the evening of 14 Aug 50. On 15 Aug 50, PW and 7 others went down to the village of TAEJON-DONG and ate breakfast at a house. About 30 ROK troops came to TAEJON-DONG at 15 1100 K Aug 50. PW surrendered to the ROK troops, but other 7 escaped.
