Claims he worked his way back to UN Line to fight again for ROK. Gave himself up to US Unit located near CHINDONG-NI.
Seems sincere and reliable.
Recommend interrogation on communist activities in PANSONG Area after its capture by NK Forces.
3. PERSONAL HISTORY:Inducted into ROK 15 Jul 49 at SEOUL.
Attended Military Academy at SEOUL until 15 Jan 50 when he graduated (10th class) assigned to ROK 5th Inf Div, 321 Unit in CHINJU as plt ldr. Unit departed CHINJU on 25 Jun 50 and headed North.
Fought at YONGDONG PO, SUWON, PYONGTAEK, CHINCHON, CHOGJU, and MUNUI. Informant wounded in action at MUNUI on 18 Jul 50 and sent to 2nd Army Hospital in TAEGU.
After 2 days in TAEGU informant was sent to the CHINJU Hospital for recuperation.
On 30 Jul 50, with the NK Army closing in on CHINJU, he left for MASAN. After reaching MASAN, he decided to evacuate the patients still in the hospital so he returned to CHINJU 2 Aug 50 but by then the others were already evacuated.
Informant got a truck and tried to make his way to UN Line, but the truck overturned at NAMUNSAN (南文山), and informant sprained hie leg. He hid in a house in the village as NK Units overran the place.
He changed to civilian clothes but was caught by CHIANDE (治安隊) at NAMSAN-NI (南山里) on 15 Aug 50.
Taken to IL PANG NG and was tortured (water torture is forced to drink great amount of water while hanging by his feet), electrical shock treatment, and beatings. On 180300 K Aug 50, informant was taken to a river flowing near PANSONG for execution, but informant worked his hands loose and escaped thru hail of bullets. He hid in mountains until 28 Aug 50, and then came down to try to reach UN position but was caught by NK troops at CHINJON. NK Troops seemed too busy to question the informant very closely, and informant was set free.
Then informant joined a group of civilians carrying supplies for NK Troops and escaped on 4 Sep 50, and working his way to US position, where he gave himself up at 050700 K Sep 50, 4 km W of CHINDONG-Nl.
4. KNOWLEDGE OF OTHER UNITS:The 603 Motorcycle Regt, composed of 300 men with 2 x motorcycle, 6 x soviet jeeps (used for hauling ammo), and 12 x 45 mm AT Guns, was located in the CHINJON area 4 Sep 50.
45 mm Guns were camouflaged and left by the road sides due to ammo shortage and auxiliary personnel along with other elements were getting ready for suicide charge on OKNYOBONG (玉女峰) Ridge during the night of 4 Sep 50. Each man was to carry two hand grenades and be a human bomb.
5. MORALE & PROPAGANDA:Morale of the troops in 603 Motorcycle unit was very low, but troops seemed very well disciplined.
