2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative but was very poorly informed. PW was of normal intelligence and physical condition. No attempts were made at evasion. Reliability - fair.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
1. Date inducted: 3 Jul 49 at HAMHUNG
2. Training: PW received basic infantry training from date of induction to 30 Mar 50, as a member of 2nd Div, 3rd Regt, 1st Bn, 2nd Co, 1st Plt, let Sqd. Basic training extended over a 3-month period from date inducted and consisted of dismounted drill, range practice (fired 5 rounds with M1891/30 rifle), political indoctrination and squad and platoon tactics. Upon completions of basic training, PW received advanced training applying what had been taught during basic training. Normal daily schedule ran as follows:
0500: Reveille
0500 - 0530: Clean-up
0530 - 0600: Political indoctrination period
0600 - 0630: Free time
0630 - 0710: Breakfast
0710 - 0800: Free time
0800 - 1200: Political indoctrination period (10 minutes break every hour)
1201 - 1230: Free time
1230 - 1310: Dinner
1310 - 1500: Free time
1500 - 1800: Military training
1800 - 1030: Equipment cleaning
1930 - 1910: Supper
1910 - 1930: Recreation period
1930 - 2000: Roll call
2000 - 2100: Free time
2100: Taps

3. Movements: 30 Mar 50, PW transferred to the 15th Div, 8th Regt as a cadre NCO. The 8th and 9th Regts were located in HOERYONG and the 7th Regt and Div Arty Regt were situated in NAJIN. PW was assigned to the 45-mm AT Co of the 8th Regt. Between 30 Mar 50, and 21 Jun 50, the Units underwent field training, principally in mountain warfare.
21 Jun 50 - 8th and 9th Regts departed HOERYONG by rail. The 7th Regt and Div Arty departed NAJIN by rail.
o/a 23 Jun 50 - 8th Regt arrived KUMHWA. Disposition of other units, unknown. O/a 23 Jun 50, 8th Regt marched south from KUMHWA. Since departing KUMHWA, PW claims that he has not seen any infantry units of the 15th Div to include the 8th Regt.
30 Aug 50 - 45-mm AT Co arrived ILGWANG-Ni (日光里) via CH’UNCH’ON, HONGCH’ON, CHANGHOWON-Ni, UMSONG, KOESAN, KUMCH’ON, KUMI-Myon, KUNWI, UISONG and TOP’YOMG-DONG. PW claims that he does not know any dates and is not able to even approximate dates of arrival and departure. PW also claims that he does not know of any engagements in which the 15th Div participated. PW states that although his company was always 2 days behind the infantry, there had been no communication.
Upon arrival at ILGWANG-Ni, PW heard that the entire 15th Div was in the mountains surrounding ILGWANG-Ni. He heard that the 8th Regt was 2 or 3 km W of ILGWANG-Ni. Location of other units, unknown. PW saw the 45-mm AT Plt, 1st Bn, 8th Regt about 2 km south of ILGWANG-Ni. The unit was maintaining a road block.
1 Sep 50 - PW was ordered to take his platoon to ANSIN-DONG and set up a road block. PW was told to prevent any ROK Forces in the mountains west of ANSIN-DONG from using the road. About 0630, ROK units started to attack PW’s position in the northern outskirts of ANSIN-DONG from the high ground west of the village. PW’s position was overrun in half an hour and PW was taken prisoner.

4. Original Organization and Strength:
The 15th Div was activated 30 Mar 50. The 8th and 9th Regts were organized in HOERYONG and the 7th and Div Arty Regt were organized in NAJIN.
Strength of the 8th Regt wa 2,500 men. Regtl artillery consisted of 6 x 120-mm Mortars, 6 x 76-mm Howitzers, 12 x 45-mm AT Guns and 27 x 82-mm Mortars. The strength and equipment of the 7th and 9th Regts were identical to that of the 8th Regt.
Strength of Div Arty Regt is not known. Div Artillery consisted of 8 x 122-mm howitzers, 8 x 76-mm AT Guns, 8 x SU-76 SP's, 12 x 45-mm AT guns and 8 x 120-mm mortars.

5. Last Known Composition of Units:
PW has no information on present strength on organization, however has seen the following equipment of the 8th Regt as of 31 Aug 50. 3 x 76-mm howitzers, 10 x 45-mm AT guns, 4 x 120-mm mortars. Number of 82-mm mortars, unknnwn. Subject observed the above artillery pieces apprroximately 2 km north of ILGWANG-Ni on the TOP'YONG-DONG-ILGWANG-Ni Road.

Unit History:
Jul 50 - PW heard that the 8th Regt was redesignated the 49th Regt, also that the 7th Regt was redesignated the 48th and 9th Regt the 50th Regt.

Morale:
Morale of the troops was very high since they believed that the NKPA would occupy all of KOREA in the near future. The troops have been told that the US would use the atomic bomb if the NKPA crossed the 38° Parallel but it has had no effect on morale.
