1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW seems intelligent but appears to be withholding information. Information not too reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
PW was drafted into 1st Div, 1st Bn, on 4 Jul 50, at SEOUL. Received 5 days training and departed SEOUL on foot 10 Jul 50. PW passed through the following cities in his march to the south: SUWON, PYONGT'AEK, KONG-JU, ILI, NAMWON, UNPONG, CHINJU, SACH'ON, PANSONG, and PECHON-Ri.
PW joined 6th Div, 1st Regt, on 31 Aug 50 at PECHON-Ri.
During the march south PW was with 1st Bn, 1st Div. PW claims there was no regimental grouping; instead, the Div was divided into five battalions. PW doesn't know when or where the lat Div was inactivated but claims that all the men were reintegrated into the 6th Div in the CHINJU-MASAN Area. The code name for the let Bn was P’AEK TU SAN (白頭山). PW thinks that the 5th En v1as celled OTAE SAN (五臺山); 2nd Co, 5th Bn called CHONGCHONGANG (淸川江); 3rd Co, 1st Bn was called AM NOK KANG (暗綠江). The Bn’s were named after mountains, and the companies were named after rivers.

Personalities: No information.

Armor:
Observed 2 medium tanks about 2 km E of SACH'ON. They were both moving west.

Artillery:
PW observed no artillery. However with 1st Bn, 1st Regt there were about 3 120-mm Mortars and 2 82-mm Mortars.

Food and Ammunition Supply:
Men were issued 200 rounds at PAECHON-Ri. Ammunition was brought there by truck from MUNSAN. Food was plentiful. Everyone received 3 days ration or rice on 31 Aug 50.

Location of Units:
3rd Co, 1st Bn - 10 km SE of SACH’ON
2nd Co, 1st Bn - in rear of 3rd Co.
1st Co, 1st Bn - in rear of 2nd Co.
1st Bn Hq - between 1st Co and 2nd Co.
The 1st Bn was marching towards MASAN in column.

Strength of Unit:
1st Bn, 1st Regt - 300 experienced NKRA soldiers and 700 S Korean conscripts.
1st and 2nd Co, 1st Bn - 250-300 men,
3rd Co, 1st Bn - 120-130 men.
The 3rd Co, 1st Bn had lost 50% of their men by the time PW was captured,

Enemy Intentions:
The 6th Div was supposed to take CHINHAE-PUSAN by 2 Sep 50. They were told to take CHINHAE at all costs.

Morale:
In PW's a company, the morale was very low be cause half of the men were killed before they knew they were in the combat area.

4. GENERAL:
US PW’s:
Observed 40 US PW's just S of SUWON. They were marching towards SEOUL.

S Korean Sentiment:
South Koreans seemed friendly towards the NKPA.
