PW seems fairly intelligent but lacks military knowledge.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
Inducted 9 Jul 50 into Volunteer Unit (S Korean Conscript) (IYONG GUN 義勇軍) at SEOUL. Informant and 200 others departed SEOUL on 12 Jul 50 and marched to PYONGTAIK, arriving on 17 Jul 50. Men were told that they were members of NK 7th Division. Division composed of 50% South Korean conscripts and 50% NK Constabulary unit members. Departed PYONGTAIK, 20 Jul 50 and marched South, passing through CHONAN, CHOCHIWON, TAEJON, KUMSAN, MUJU, CHINAN, IMSIL, NAMWON, KURYE (rested 10 days), HADONG, SACHON, SAMCHON PO, SACHON, CHINJU, UIRYONG, to KUGONG NI. Arrived at KUGONG NI 25 Aug 50. On 31 Aug, PW's Unit attacked a ridge 2 km East of KUGONG NI. Informant and two others were captured by US Forces.
T/O & E of PW's Unit:
3rd company was composed of three (3) rifle Platoons. Each platoon had 45 men, three (3) LMGs, 240 rounds each, six (6) SMGs, 140 rounds each, 15 rifles, 50 to 70 rounds per rifle and two hand grenades per rifleman.
Disposition of Above Units:
2nd Battalion (code POKSA NAMU) located at KUKONG NI (九工里). 1st, Battalion, 2nd Regiment located 500 meters west of 2nd Battalion.
Ammo & Food Supply:
Ammo was carried by ammo bearers who followed the troops. Food was requisitioned from farmers.
Replacement:
2nd Regiment has never received replacements.
Morale:
Morale of unit was fairly high, but it dropped when food ration was meager.
American PWs:
A total of approximately 80 American PWs seen on the road between TAEJON and KURYE, Pws were marching north.
Enemy Intention:
7th Division along with the 5th on right flank and 9th Division on left flank was to start an all-out attack on 31 Aug 50. The objective of the unit was PUSAN.
Civilian attitude:
Civilians in CHOLLA NAMDO welcomed the NK Peoples Army. Informant believes that they would welcome any one with guns.
