Average intelligence, cooperative. PW was farming till induction into Army 7 Aug 50 at 4 km S of YANGYANG (襄陽). Further interrogation is not recommended.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Inducted 7 Aug 50 at place 4 km S of YANGYANG. Departed YANGYANG 10 Aug 50 - marched - arrived KANGNUNG (江陵) 12 Aug 50. Total approx 550 men were divided to units. Departed KANGNUNG - 14 Aug 50 - marched - arrived ANDONG 19 Aug 50. Received arms at ANDONG. At ANDONG 140 were in PW's unit. Out of 140 men PW was only one who was assigned to 1st Sqd of AT plt, 2nd Bn, 2nd Regt, 8th Div. Plt ldr changed at ANDONG. Departed ANDONG 22 Aug 50. Fought 12 km N of YONGCH'ON 1 Sep 50. Antitank plt composed of 22 men. Plt ldr name unk, age 23, KIA 12 km N of YONGCH'ON on 3 Sep 50. Plt ldr carried PPsh M1943 SMG with foldin stock and 141 rounds. Sqd ldr, name unk, age 28 WIA 12 km N of YONGCH'ON on 2 Sep 50. Sqd ldr carried M1938 carbine and 85 rounds. 5 men carried M1891/30 rifle with average of 70 rounds. 15 men carried M1938 carbine with an average of 70 rounds. AT plt armed with 9 x 14.5mm PTRD-41, total 68 rounds. Each piece had 7-9 rounds of ammunition each. AT plt is directly attached to Bn.
Communications:
PW observed field telephone 12 km N of YONGCH'ON on 1 Sep 50. Field telephone was similar to UN A 1-31 field telephone but identification not certain.
Intentions:
PW stated their mission was to take YONGCH’ON.
Dispositions of Unit (as of l Sep):
2nd Bn Hqs was located top of a mt 12 km N of YONGCH’ON. Approx 2 km S of 2nd Bn at the base of the Mt there were 3 AT guns. Caliber unknown but pieces similar to 100mm M1944 AT gun. In 2nd Bn Hq area PW observed 4 x 82mm M1937 mortar.
Morale and Propaganda:
PW heard about leaflets but never saw any. PW does not believe leaflets. Morale was low because of insufficient food and training. PW does not know why he was fighting.
Supplies:
Received average of 2 rice balls a day. After 24 Aug 50 average of 1 rice ball per day. Rice obtained from farmers. Ammunition last received at ANDONG on 20 Aug 50.
Which weapon did PW fear most?
Aircraft and artillery bombardment.
