Prisoner surrendered to the ROK Forces at Hill 815 (P'ALGONGSAN near KUNWI, on 24 Aug 50.
PW cooperative and intelligent, but information limited.

Present location of 13th Div:
The 13th Div Hqs, was located on Hill 815, P'ALGONGSAN Mountain, just SE of the village of KUNWI. PW heard that the 13th Div had advanced from SANGJU and established their headquarters 10 miles south of the 1st Div Hqs.

Capability of Unit:
PW heard approx 2/3 of the personnel in the 1st Div were seasoned troops, and the remaining 1/3 were “volunteers” organized in occupied area.
Morale of the troops were low due to lack of supplies. Fear among the troops increased after they witnessed execution of a fellow “volunteer” for desertion. To boost the morale of the troops, they were promised a medal if they captured TAEGU.

Mission:
The 1st Div’s mission was to capture TAEGU coordinating with the 13th Div.

Personalities:
1st Corps CG - KIM, MU CHONG (金武亭) Lt Gen;
Personal History: A veteran of the Korean Independence War. At one time he was commanding officer of the Korean troops in the Chinese Communist Army. Instructor of artillery at YENAN Military College. After the Korean liberation, he became the commanding general of the NKPA and was known as General MU CHONG. He was the leader of the YENAN Communist Group which was opposed by General KIM IL SUNG’s USSR Communist Group.

Supplies:
Between 1 Aug 50 to 15 Aug 50, the 1st Div received PPSh SMB and rifle ammunitions (amount unknown). This ammunition was transported during the night by approx 30 trucks and by horse and ox carts.

Armor:
PW observed 10 x T-34/05 tanks at SEOUL and 2 at HAMCH'ANG.

Foreign Elements:
Soviet advisors - 16 Aug 50, he observed one (1) Russian advisor in military uniform. The Russian was at that time with General KIM, MU CHONG, at the 1st Corps Hqs located in the vicinity of HAMCH'ANG.

Supply Dumps:
From 1 Aug 50 to 6 Aug 50, the 1st Div supply dump was located in the village of SINPUNG (2 km NW of YONGPUNG). This village had about 40 houses. From 7 Aug to 15 Aug 50, it was located 2 km SW of HAMCH’ANG in a village of 20 houses.

4. GENERAL:
Political and Subversive Activities:
1. S KOREA invaded N KOREA with the intention of selling KOREA to AMERICA.
2. The USA has deceived the UN to bring their troops to KOREA. Now, they are attempting to exterminate the Korean people so that they can build an empire.
3. Great RUSSIA and CHINA have faith in KOREA and feel bitter toward the US invaders.
4. If Gen MacARTHUR does not take action to evacuate his army, navy and air force from KOREA by 15 Aug 50, our allies, Great RUSSIA and Red CHINA will immediately dispatch 5,000 USSR aircraft and 20 Divisions to N KOREA.

US PsW:
Prisoner observed 20 US PsW at the SUSONG Primary School, SEOUL. He heard that they were captured at SUWON. Also heard the N Korean Government are indoctrinating the GI's so that they can use them as “cells” in a future program.
