REMARKS: PW was cooperative. Military information limited but reliable.


2. DISPOSITION OF ABOVE UNITS: (As of 3 Sep 50)
3rd Battalion of the 50th Regiment was located in the vicinity of KAERYONG SAN (Approximately 12 km NE of KUMCHON). Disposition of other units unknown.

3. STRENGTH OF ABOVE UNITS:

4. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
PW was inducted into the NK Army on 1 Jun 50 at PW’s home address. Trained as rifleman for 20 days in HAERYONG (KAINEI).
50th Regiment of 15th Division left HAERYONG on 21 Jun 50 by train and arrived in KUMHWA on 24 Jun 50. From KUMHWA they marched. southward, crossed the 38th parallel (25 Jun), passed through CHUNCHON, ICHON, CHANGHOWON-NI, KUMCHON, and arrived in the vicinity of KAERYONG on 3 Sep 50. PW’s unit was ambushed by South Korean Troops.

6. ARMOR:
On 3 Sep 50, PW observed two of three T-34/85 Med Tanks destroyed by land mines approximately 4 Km west of KAERYONG SAN.

7. ARTILLERY:
Saw two 120 mm Mortars and about five 45 mm Mortars which had been hauled by ox carts to the above-mentioned place.

8. FOOD AND AMMO:
Food was generally insufficient, therefore, troops confiscated rice in the occupied areas.
PW had 25 rounds of ammo when he was captured on 3 Sep 50. PW believes that ammo supply did not catch up with the troops because they utilized ox carts to transport it instead of vehicles.

9. REPLACEMENTS:
PW’s unit did not receive any replacements since passing the 38th parallel on 25 Jun 50.
Wounded personnel were sent to the rear; however, PW did not see any who had been returned to duty.

10. ENEMY INTENTIONS:
TAEGU was the main objective of PW’s unit at the time of his capture on 3 Sep 50. Troops in PW’s unit were told by their Platoon CO to fight to the last man and never surrender to SK troops.

11. MORALE:
The morale of PW’s unit was low due to constant air attacks, lack of food and ammo and inexperience in actual combat.

12. SOUTH KOREAN SENTIMENT:
Never in contact with SK people, as they were evacuated from the area.
