T/O & E OF PW'S UNIT:
2nd Bn of the 1st Regt was composed of three (3) Rifle Companies and one (1) HMG Co. PW's Co consisted of 150 men. 1st Co of the 2nd Bn was composed of three (3) rifle platoons and one (1) HMG platoon. PW's platoon consisted of 40 men. 2nd Plat of the 1st Co was composed of three (3) rifle squads. PW squad consisted of 10 men.
Riflemen were armed with M1899/30 rifles, 150 rounds and 2 handgenades.
Sqd Ldrs carried submachine guns. Plat ldrs & officers, pistols (ammo unknown).
There was one (1) 82mm mortar platoon assigned to each Bn. Each platoon had 4 x 82mm mortars (ammo unknown). One (1) HMG Platoon had 2 x HMG (ammo unknown).
DISPOSITION OF ABOVE UNITS:
On 1 Sep 50, 2nd Bn of 1st Regt was located in a small town approx 8 Km West of HAMAN. Disposition of other units unknown.
ESTIMATED STRENGTH OF ABOVE UNITS:
2nd Bn of 1st Regt, 7th Div had about 700 men but present strength is estimated to be 350.
PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted into the Army on 4 Feb 50 at. SHINCHONG. Received 3 months of basic training at SHINCHONG.
4th Bn of the unit departed SHINCHONG on 24 May 50 by train and arrived KUMCHON on 25 May 50.
The Bn was used as a construction unit for one month in this city.
On 25 June, the Bn left the city in trucks, took a ferry boat, and arrived in KAMGHWA on 30 Jun 50. They took quarters in a school building for 6 days.
The Bn left the school and passed through SEOUL, YONGDUNG PO, SUWON, CHIHGCHON, CHONGJU, and arrived CHOCHIWON on 10 Jul 50.
When they arrived in CHOCHIWON, the Bn became the 2nd Bn of 1st Regt, 7th Div.
The 2nd Bn departed CHOCHIWON on 13 Jul 50 and passed through KONGJU, NONSAN, CHONSONG NI, KWAUGJU, HAENAM, YONGAE, POSONG, SUNCHON, HADONG, CHINJU and arrived on a mountain near HAMAN on 24 Aug 50.
PW's unit was attacked by US troops, and PW with 7 others was captured on 1 Sep 50.

ARMOR:
Observed three (3) medium tanks (type & size unknown) heading eastward from CHINJU on 23 Aug 50.
ARTILLERY:
No information.
FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
PW stated that troops always carried three (3) day ration with them. If their food ran out, they went out to villages and confiscated rice from warehouses and farmhouses.
PW received one issue of 70 rounds of ammunition when he left KUMCHON on 25 Jun 50; and another issue of 50 rounds at HAMA RI on 23 Aug 50.
REPLACEMENTS:
Received no replacements. Wounded troops from PW's unit (Number unknown) were evacuated to the rear. No wounded observed to return to their original unit.
ENEMY INTENTIONS:
Troops were exhorted by their company CO to fight to the last breath and never surrender. Surrender was described as a fate worse than death.
Objective of PW's unit was KUNPUK to be taken by the end of August 50 after crossing the NANKANG.
MORALE:
The morale of PW’s unit was very low when they reached the NANKANG area due to the loss of their experienced men, most of whom were either dead or wounded.
US PW’s:
Observed about 100 US PW’s who were marching northward at SUWON on 10 Jul 50. About one (1) guard was used for every 10 US PW’s.
Observed about 50 US PW’s marching northward at CHOCHIWON 20 Jul 50. About 6 men from PW’s unit were used to guard US PW.
SOUTH KOREAN SENTIMENTS:
South Korean people in general did not welcome PW's unit. Reason was not known.
