3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Inducted 25 Jul 50 in SEOUL and received one day of military training. 10 Aug 50, the entire 3rd Replacement Regt (3,600 recruits) departed SEOUL, marched and arrived ICH’ON (利川) 13 Aug 50. Departed ICH’ON 13 Aug 50, marched, arrived TANYANG (丹陽) 16 Aug 50. Departed TANYANG 17 Aug 50, marched, arrived ANDONG (安東) 19 Aug 50. At ANDONG, on 23 Aug 50, the 3,600 men of the 3rd Replacement Regt was assigned to various units of the 8th Div. On the same day the Div departed from ANDONG and marched, arriving UISONG (義城) 25 Aug 50.
At UISONG (25 Aug 50) 1 the Div was separated by Bns (Disposition unknown), PW's unit (1st Bn) marched to KUNWI - arrived 27 Aug 50. Spent three or four days in the KUNWI Mt area (2 km S of KUNWI). 1 Sep 50 PW’s unit (2nd Co) was ordered to go on a special mission by Bn Comdr. While the troops approached Hill 343 (8 km S of KUNWI) they were attacked by unknown ROK troops. Due to the severe artillery shelling and machine gun fire, PW’s unit (2nd Co) was ordered to withdraw, however PW remained there and hid himself in a ditch. The following day (2 Sep 50), PW gave himself up to the ROK troops who were occupying Hill 343.

PW received an average of three meals a day. Food was brought from SEOUL by trucks and ox carts almost daily, until KUNWI (27 Aug 50). Beside three supplies they also looted from village when they were short of food. Ammunition was last received in KUNWI 31 Aug 50 (200 rds per man). Supplies were brought from SEOUL during the night by trucks and ox carts of were hand-carried by soldiers.
Enemy Intentions:
8th Div objective was TAEGU via PALGONG-SAN (八公山).

Co - 120 men, Plt - 41 men, Sqd - 10 men. Riflemen were armed with M1891/30 rifles, 200 rounds, each squad had five grenades.
Sqd ldrs: submachine guns, two 70 rounds drums, three grenades.
Officers: M1933 pistols. Inf Co - 120 men, 3 x DP LMG's, 46 x submachine guns. Other details unknown.
