Evaluation:
Cooperative, information limited because PW was hospitalized during most of the time that his unit was in action.

Military History:
Inducted 28 Feb 50 - SINUIJU (新義州) in the Democratic Youth League Training Unit. Received no training.
Departed SINUIJU - 20 Mar 50 - by rail - arrived with approx 500 men - KUMCH’ON (金川). 22 Mar 50. Hospitalized at KUMCH’ON for injured spine - 3½ months.
Departed KUMCH’ON 6 Jul 50 - by truck - arrived SEOUL with 10 other EM - 8 Jul 50.
Departed SEOUL - 8 Jul 50 - marched (crossed HAN River on ferry) - arrived CH’UNGJU (忠州) 16 Jul 50. Joined 6th Sqd, 2nd Plt, 1st Co, 1st Bn, 1st Regt - CH’UNGJU - 16 Jul 50. Hospitalized for injured spine again - CH’UNGJU - 19 Jul 50, and dropped from 1st Regt. In hospital 1 month.
Departed CH’UNGJU - 19 Aug 50 - marched with 9 other EM - arrived KUNWI (軍威) (1150-1480) 22 Aug 50.
Departed KUNWI - 22 Aug 50 - marched - rejoined 1st Regt approx 4 km N of KASAN (架山) - 24 Aug 50. Arrived KASAN with entire 1st Regt - 26 Aug 50. Attacked ROK units - KASAN - 27 Aug 50, PW’s Co (1st Co) lost about 20 of its 90 men. PW sneaked off to the rear to a deserted village where he stayed until he ran out of food 31 Aug 50. Upon leaving village he met ROK soldiers and surrendered to them immediately 31 Aug 50.

Armor and Artillery:
Observed None

Vehicles:
Observed about 10 x 2½-ton trucks, 8 x horse carts, KUNWI-22 Aug 50. Trucks and carts were carrying rice and small arms ammunition.

Supplies:
Received average 2 rice balls daily.

Enemy Intention:
Objective of 1st Regt was T'AEGU via a mountain approx 7 km N of TAEGU called P’ALGONG-SAN (八公山).
No gas training or equipment received.

Additional Information:
Observed no guerrillas. PW heard that 1st Div would be assisted in the attack on T’AEGU by 13th, 14th and 15th Divs.
Observed no Safe Conduct Passes or other leaflets.
Hospital - CH’UNGJU - Where PW was treated was celled the TONG-IN Hospital (東仁病院), had two civilian doctors and 3 civilian nurses. There is also a NKPA hospital in CH’UNGJU, but PW was not treated there because it is used for combat wounded NKPA personnel only.
1st Regt, 1st Div has 3 NKPA doctors (one Sr Lt, two Lts) and about 10 enlisted aidemen assigned to it.
Morale in 1st Bn, 1st Regt was low because most men had insufficient combat training.
