2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was in good physical condition and spoke freely. Since PW had only 10 days of military service, his information was limited and seemed unreliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
27 Aug 50 - About 3,000 S Koreans including PW, were conscripted into the NKPA at WONJU (原州). Theㄴ 3,000 S Koreans were all conscripted from the vicinity of WONJU.
The 3,000 men departed WONJU 27 AUG 50. They received neither training nor weapons at WONJU.
O/a 3 Sep 50 - The 3,000 men reached the vicinity (distance and direction, unknown) of TABU-DONG (多富洞) via TANYANG (丹陽), ANDONG (安東), and UISONG (義城). The 3,000 men were attached to a regiment (designation, unknown) as replacements. There were 3 rifle battalions in the regiment, and 1,000 replacements were assigned to each battalion.
Approx 1,000 men, including PW, were attached to the 3rd Bn. PW stated that there were about 400 original troops in the 3rd Bn, so there was a total of approx 1,400 men in the 3rd Bn. About 50% of the replacements received M1891/30 rifles. Half of those who received rifles were issued 20-30 rounds of ammunition.
5 Sep 50 - PW and 2 others escaped on 05 2400 Sep 50. One of them was shot by a N Korean soldier while running away. PW and the other managed to escape but they were separated after they had run about 500 meters from the location of the 3rd Bn.
6 Sep 50 - About Co 0600, PW saw approx 10 x US tanks and 100 US troops at point (1151.7-1459.4). PW surrendered to the US troops.
Note: The 3,000 replacements had not engaged in battle as of 5 Sep 50.

Unit Organization and Strength:
As of 5 Sep 50, the strength of 3rd Bn was as follows:
3rd Bn - 4 rifle companies. Supporting units, unknown.
Rifle CO - approx 370 men. Among 370 men, 70 were original troops and rest were replacements. PW did not see any HMG’s in company. There were about 20 LMG’s in Co. There were about 20 LMG’s and about 20-30 SMG’s. About 1/4 of the men in Co were armed with M1891/30 rifles. More than 100 men in company did not have weapons.

Unit History:
PW heard from the original troops of the 3rd Bn that they engaged in battle only at SEOUL.
