Physical condition, good. PW captured while acting as rear guard for his unit. Surrendered with surprised by ROK troops. Not recommended for further interrogation.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Inducted at KOWAN on 9 Apr 50. Received 2 months basic training at NAJIN. Basic included dismounted drill, infantry training, instruction in firing HMG. The 45th Regt of the 15th Div received its training at the same time. On 23 Jun 50, 45th Regt boarded train, via HUNGNAM, WONSAN, CH’ORWON, arriving KUMWHA on 28 Jun 50. Unit then marched to HWACH’ON, CH'UNCH’ON (春川), HONGCH’ON (洪川), YOJU (驪州), UMSONG (院城), KOESAN (槐山), KUMCH'ON (金泉), SONSAN (善山), UISONG captured 4 km N of YONGCH’ON.
Unit Organization and Strength:
66 men in MG Co. 12 x Maxim HMG in Co. 5 men to each gun. Approx 600 men in 3rd Bn. Approx 3,000 men in 45th Regt.
2 Maxim HMG left at time of capture. 1 HMG assigned to 7th Co. One to 8th Co of 3rd Bn. 6 boxes of ammunition left for each gun. Each box helds 250 rounds.
3rd Bn, 300 men left.
Approx 28 Jul 50, PW saw 2 SP Guns approx 20 km S of UISONG. Seen at same time and place 1 x T-34 tank. Seen in sane area, same day 4 x 45-mm Gun, 8 x 76-mm Guns, 4 x 120-mm Guns.
Disposition:
8th Div on right of 45th Regt. Unknown Regt on left of 45th Regt. 3rd Bn attacked at night. Company infiltrated through rice fields. Mountains were patrolled by ROK Troops. When PW’s company came out of rice fields they cut road going to T’AEGU.
Enemy intention:
15th Div to take YONGCH’ON and PUSAN.
4. GENERAL:PW did not see any leaflets. PW heard about leaflets from another Soldier in his unit. PW intended to surrender after hearing about leaflets.
