2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative, but interrogator cannot tell whether PW is telling the truth or not.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Inducted 25 Jul 50, in SEOUL "Volunteer" group, 29 Jul 50, this group was activated as the 3rd Replacement Regt. 3,600 men. Received 15 days of communist indoctrination at National University Law College (國立大學法朻). 1st and 2nd Regts did not exist.
Departed SEOUL - 10 Aug 50 - marched - arrived ICH’ON (利川) - 17 Aug 50. Travelled 29 km a day. 3rd Replacement Regt arrived here.
Departed ICH'ON - 17 Aug 50 - marched - arrived CH'UNGJU (忠州) - 20 Aug 50.
Departed CH'UNGJU, d/u - arrived UISONG (義城) 25 Aug 50, via TANYANG, PUNGGI, YONGJU and ANDONG. 3rd Replacement Regt personnel assigned to 8th Div.
8th Div was formerly a Border Guard unit.
PW saw 4 x T-34/95 tanks and 8 x 120-mm and 76-mm Arty pieces from a distance of 100 meters. They were located 4 km S of UISONG. The Co also stated that there were 8 tanks in the 8th Div.
Departed UISONG - 25 Aug 50 - marched - arrived UIHUNG (義興) 29 Aug 50.
Departed UIHUNG - 29 Aug 50 - marched - arrived KUBO (久保) 29/30 Aug 50. There was a Regt Supply Hq 3 km N of KUBO RR station. Unknown amount of artillery, mortar and rifle ammunition was stored in an area 2 meters x 150 meters covered with grass. PW last saw this supply dump 30 Aug 50, when he hauled some ammunition. Regt CO was also observed here in this area on 30 Aug 50.
Ammunition was hauled to this dump by truck. There was one large building which was used as a supply hq. Five or six small buildings adjacent to this large building were used as a field hospital.
PW believed ammunition was shipped to YONGJU by train and hauled by truck to UPO KUBO. PW stated that there was a 100 meter steel bridge south of ANDONG, single tracked. It was not damage. On both side of the bridge trees were planted so that if one looks from above he could not distinguish it as a bridge or road.
Departed KUBO - 30 Aug 50 - marched - arrived 6 km S of KUBO 31 Aug 50. 1st Bn arrived. Three Bn’s were separated at KUBO RR station. A Regt tactical headquarters was located at this 6 km point.
Regt Hq as the center, 3rd Bn Hq was located 1 km SW; 2nd Bn Hq 1 km SE and 1st Bn Hq 1 km S. Bns were 2 to 3 km apart.
1 Sep 50, PW’s Bn engaged the ROK 6th Div. NK troops were badly mauled. PW and a fellow soldier, after hearing the ROK officer say that they would not kill any man who surrendered, surrendered.
PW received rifle and grenade for the first time at TOKSAN-DONG, 1 Sep 50, before going into battle.

Foreign Elements:
15 Aug 50, PW saw 1 Russian Sgt and 1 Russian Lt on a jeep at YOJU (驪州). He overheard the Lt say that he was coming back from KOCH’ANG (居昌). PW understands some Russian (PW also spoke fairly good English). 10 Jul 50, PW saw a Russian Maj at PAGODA Park in SEOUL.

Weapons and Personnel:
8tn Div - personnel, unknown, however he heard that this Div was composed of 400 N. Koreans and remainder were all S. Koreans.
3rd Regt - 3,600, all S. Korean recruits. There were 3 battalions in this Regt, One battalion - 1,200 men.
There was also an independent Arty Bn in the 8th Div. Whenever a battalion needed artillery support they sent up a flare. Detail of this battalion, unknown.
1st Bn had 1 HMG.
There were 3 infantry companies in a battalion. There were 3 platoons in each company.
One LMG in a platoon. Three squads in a platoon. Squads, 10 men.
Squad leader, sub-machine gun, rounds; unknown. Others, M1891/30 rifles, 120 rounds, 2 grenades,
PW's platoon was annihilated in battle. Whereabout of his unit, unknown. Saw unknown number of 76-mm Guns in Regt. No other information.

Supplies:
Received one meal a day. Food was usually gathered from abandoned village homes.

Enemy Intention:
Mission was to take YONGCH’ON. The 8th, 15th and 3rd Divs were suppose to take YONGCH’ON than to T’AEGU.
PW heard from the Arty Bn CO that and unknown number of Hungarian Red Cross nurses and doctors were now in the 80th Field Hospital.
Between 25 to 29 Jul 50, PW saw 20 x T-34/85 on freight cars every night, usually 2000-2100 hours, move between SUSAEK and YONGSAN (龍山) RR Station. This station was supposed to be the main supply point to southern area. Tanks which came in from the north were hidden in tunnels during the daytime and moved during the night.
PW stated that he came from North KOREA to South KOREA in 1948. He was mixed up in the student incident which occurred at P’YONGYANG, 1 Mar 46.
PW volunteered into the “Volunteer Army,” 25 Jul 50, because he was afraid that the Reds might investigate his background.
Note: PW identified Sgt MIEHINA (164th LD) who investigated PW in 1948.
