1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative and talked freely.
Information reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Hired by the NKA 20 Jul 50 at YANGPYONG (CS 6749) and assigned to the Forward Echelon Transportation Hq, 15th Division as a truck driver.
During early Sep 50, Forward Echelon Transportation Hq (前方輸送本部) moved to KUMCHON (DQ 2197).
During mid Sep 50, Forward Echelon Transportation Hq departed KUMCHON and fled Northward through CHUNGJU, (DR 0592), WONJU (DS 0734), CHUNCHON (CS 8893), CHORWON (CT 4334), ICHON (CT 2762), PYONGYANG, SUNCHON (YD 5367), MUPYONG (BA 8505), KANGGYE (BA 9738), and arrived at TAEDONG MYON (BA 8017) during early Oct 50.
During early Nov 50, moved to HUICHON (BV 6849). After arriving at HUICHON, the Forward Echelon Transportation Hq was redesignated as the NKA Hq, HUICHON Garrison Hq.
During early Dec 50, the HUICHON Garrison Hq was redesignated as the PYONGYANG Garrison Hq and arrived at PYONGYANG.
During early Jan 51, assigned as a driver for the former PYONGYANG Garrison Hq commander, and arrived in SEOUL.
During mid Jan 51, involved in an accident. Former commander of the PYONGYANG Garrison Hq was injured and hospitalized.
3 Feb 51, drove a jeep to YANGPYONG (CS 6749) from SEOUL. 5 Feb 51, lost his vehicle when the ice of the HAN River near YANGSU-RI cracked, while the PW was trying to cross the river.
6 Feb 51, tried to desert but was apprehended near YANGPYONG. After being taken back to YANGSU-RI (CS 5256) 7 Feb 51, the soldier guarding the PW was killed during air strike. Escaped and made his way to the front and surrendered to the US 21st Regiment 18 Feb 51 at HWAYANG (CS 665466).

b. Location and Activities of Units:
During early Jan 51, observed the NKA Supreme Hq (人民最高司令部) located in farm houses in TAMBAE GOL (12 Km North or NE of PYONGYANG).
During early Jan 51, heard the “United Hq” (聯合司令部) (believed to be the Hq of the Chinese Communist Force in Korea) was located at KANGDONG (BU 5335) and that the advance echelon of the Headquarter departed for the SEOUL area during early Jan 51.
Although this “United Hq” was designated as such, it only controlled all CCF activities. Has no jurisdiction over NKA activities.
During early Jan 51, heard NKA I Corps was located in SEOUL.
During early Jan 51, the Garrison Headquarters of the NKA departed for INCHON (BS 9149).
During early Jan 51, heard NK 31st or the 32nd Division was located in the INCHON Area.
Heard of very little liaison between the “United Hq” and the NKA Supreme Headquarters.

c. T/O & E and Strength of Units:
Garrison Hq of the NKA had Transportation Co, Security Patrol Co, Signal Platoon, Medical Platoon, Security Section, Staff Section, and Political Section.

d. Personalities:
KIM, Yong Un (金龍雲)
Lt Col
Formerly commander of the Garrison Hq, NKA. Relieved during Jan 51, and hospitalized during mid Jan 51 due to a jeep accident. Said to be awaiting a new assignment with the United Hq because of Chinese-speaking ability.

e. Replacements:
Talked with a CCF soldier at YANGPYONG Area during Feb 51 and learned that they were waiting for 400,000 CCF troops to arrive.

f. Food, Ammo, and Other Supplies:
Heard during early Feb 51 units in the YANGPYONG Area were drawing supplies from YANGSU-RI (CS 5157).

g. Armor, Artillery and Aircraft:
During early Jan 51, observed 2 single engine monoplane conventional fighters with red star markings on wings at the PYONGYANG Airfield. Observed 4 similar aircraft flying over PYONGYANG at the same time.
Aircraft were parked inside a burned out hangar (only steel frame remaining).

h. Morale and Battle Effectiveness:
Morale of CCF troops low because of difficulties encountered since coming to KOREA.
Morale of NKA troops very high because they believe that victory is near.

I. UN PW:
Observed approx 400 to 500 US PW during Dec 50 marching northward from KUJANG (BV 4517). Heard from NKA officers accompanying the PW that the PW will be sent to the USSR.

j. Medical:
Heard of cases of erruptive typhus in NKA but had no details.

k. Psychological Warfare:
Surrendered because his brother was serving with the ROKA and family took refuge in UN territory.
Saw leaflets which guaranteed fair treatment if NKA troops surrendered, but did not affect him materially, one way or the other.

l. Foreign Advisors
During Dec 50, observed 4 to 5 Russians wearing civilian clothes at the NKA Supreme Headquarters located in TAMBE GOL. Heard that these Russians were military advisors.
