Reliability - Fair.
a. Description of Flags:
The flag is approx 16″ x 14″. Either plain white flag or plain red. No design.
b. Use of Flags:
Company communication squad used signal flags for communicating between company headquarters and forward elements.
c. Variations:
Each company communication squad had two white flags and two red flags.
d. Other Equipment:
Each squad leader used whistle between his squad and other squads.
Each platoon leader used small bugle for communication between his platoon and other platoons.
e. Use of Flags at Night:
No flags used during the night in PW Co. Used signal flags during daylight and used bugle or whistle at night for communication.
f. Method of Use:
The method of using signal flags is variable at the discretion of the company commander. Each forward element receives signal instruction by the company commander before going out on missions. Company commander directed signal men to wave the flags.
