1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was dull and unobservant.
Information seems unreliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Conscripted 15 Sep 50 at NAEDONG NI (BA 8958).
Taken northward with the NK 33rd Brigade to KANGGYE (BA 9837), arriving there during Nov 50.
33rd Brigade was deactivated, and its personnel were replacements for the 12th Division.
The 2nd Regiment was issued 2 sets of winter clothing per man Nov 50.
Used weapons and ammunition were issued while at KANGGYE.
The 2nd Regiment departed KANGGYE and arrived in the 38th Parallel area 25 Dec 50.
The 1st Bn, 2nd Regiment was engaged in combat for a day on 2 Jan 51 before the entire regiment proceeded southward.
The Regiment travelled through the mountains and arrived at a point 12 miles NE of CHECHON (DS 3010) on 15 Feb 51. It immediately went into defensive positions. The unit retreated before UN attacks and shelling.
PW surrendered during this retreat.

b. Location and Activities of Unit: (18 Feb 51)
The 2nd Regiment was last seen retreating from a position, 12 miles NE of CHECHON (DS 3010).
The 12th Division’s mission was to disrupt UN communication lines between CHECHON and ANDONG.

c. T/O & E and Strength of Unit:
V Corps : 12th, 6th and the 15th Divisions.
12th Division : 1st, 2nd and the 3rd Regiments.
2nd Regiment : 3 Battalions.
Each Battalion : 3 Rifle Companies, 1 x HMG Co, and 1 Mortar Company.
Each Company : 3 Rifle Platoons.
Each Platoon : 3 Rifle Squads.
Each Squad : 8 men.

Present 3rd Battalion strength was estimated to be at approx 250 men (18 Feb 51).
2nd Regiment strength was believed to be approx 1,500 men (18 Feb 51).

d. Food, Ammo and Other Supplies:
Food was procured locally in insufficient amounts.

e. Morale:
Morale was low due to the constant long marches and exposure to the cold weather.

f. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
Surrendered because of the hardships faced in the NKA.
PW had seen no leaflets.
