FIELD REPORT (EXTRACT OF ADVATIS SPECIAL REPORT 031) 23 February 1951

2. ASSESSMENT:
Reliability - fair

3. SIGNAL FLAGS:
a. Description of Flags:
There are two flags in PW company. Both flags are the same in size. One flag is white, the other is red, measuring 14 inches x 14 inches. There are no designs on these two flags. These flags attached to two wooden sticks.

b. Use of Flags:
The flags are only used at company and battalion levels. The flags are used to signal commands during combat to advance, withdraw, and halt. They are used by company and battalion commanders when needed, but are carried by the runner.

c. Special Training:
Users did not receive any special training.

d. Manuals:
There were no manuals or sets of regulations used to cover the system of signal flag communication. However, temporary systems are used as devised by company or battalion commanders.

e. Use of Flags at Night:
At night small horn is used instead of the flags.

f. Standardization of System:
This system is used in all command areas as far as PW knowledge goes. CCF usually called these two flags red and white flags.

g. Personnel Handling Flags:
Company and battalion commanders wave flags. The presence of a flag indicates a commander is giving a command.

h. Deception:
This system of signal flag communication is not used for the purpose of deceiving or confusing enemy forces.
