3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:A. Chronology:
PW was inducted into the Army on 5 August 1950 at PYONGYANG and was sent to KAESONG, South KOREA. PW served there about 4 days and was sent to SEOUL. PW took his basic training with the 18th Regiment from 10 August 1950 to 2 September 1950 at SEOUL. After training was finished, PW left SEOUL on 2 September 1950 for the front lines. On 8 September 1950, the PW arrived in KUMCHON (approximately 34 kilometers from TAEGU) and was stationed there until 16 September 1950. PW’s unit came back to YONG DUNG PO on 19 September 1950.
B. Unit Organization and Strength:
(1) Origin 1 organization and strength:
Original PW’s Bn Strength was approximately 450 men and approximately 1300 men in the 18th Regiment.
(2) Actual combat strength: Three (3) Battalions totaling approximately 1300 men.
C. Equipment:
Each squad possessed one HMG and one PPSH SMG.
Each platoon possessed one LMG.
PW also observed an Anti-tank rifle and mortars but the number was unknown.
D. Unit Duties:
To defend SEOUL.
