Subject was cooperative and gave information without hesitation. Subject deserted his unit prior to capture, due to his belief that the NK Troop were losing the battle. Information may be reliable.
3. MILITARY HISTORY:Inducted at PYONGYANG (平壤) on 1 Aug 50 and was attached to 586th Regt, 1st Bn, 2nd Co, 1st Plat, 1st Sq for training.
The 586th Regt had 37mm AA guns and 85mm AA guns. The 23rd Bn of the 586th Regt was activated on 12 Sep 50: Strength of the bn --- 126 men and 12 (37mm) AA guns with 200 rounds of ammunition per gun. The 23rd Bn had 3 companies (42 men per co). There were 2 platoons and an administration section per company, and 2 sqds in each platoon. Each sqd had one AA gun (37mm). No rifles carried in the bn.
The 23rd Bn left PYONGYANG (平壤) on 12 Sep 50 and arrived in SEOUL on 17 Sep 50 by train and by marching. The 3rd Co moved into SEOUL on 17 Sep 50, and on 19 Sep 50 the company moved to KOYANG KUN, KOYANG MYON.
Gun emplacements were dug on 20 Sep 50 and the company was shelled by UN artillery on 21 Sep 50. The company suffered 1 casualty and retreated. Subject deserted the company while company was retreating.
4. MORALE:Troop morale was low due to shelling and strafing by UN forces. Troops were fed 2 or 3 bowls of rice daily.
