3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Conscripted on 15 July 1950 at CHINNAM PO. Was promoted to 2nd Lt on 27 July 1950. After passing an examination was made a platoon leader.
918th Artillery Regiment was composed of:
a. Three (3) Battalions
b. Nine (9) Companies; 48 troops to a company.
Of the 918th Arty Regt, only the 2nd Bn was situated on the coast of lNCHON. It consisted of the 4th and 6th companies. They were equipped with seven (7) 76mm Arty pieces and eighty (80) rifles. These two companies were wiped out after the naval bombardment of 15 September 1950.
The 5th Company of the 2nd Bn was located at SUWON. It was equipped with four (4) 76m Arty guns and consisted of approximately 48 personnel.
1st Bn Hqs of the 918th Arty Regt was located at SEIHO-RI (approx 4 km N of KUMSAN-NI). 1st Co of this lat Bn was located on SOK-TO (island off the coast of KUMSAN-Nl). 3rd Co was located on CHO-DO (island off the coast ot KUMSAN-NI). 2nd Co was located on a small island approximately 4 km SW of ONJONG-NI (North Korea). Each company consisted of 48 men and four (4) Arty guns (76mm).
Headquarters of the 918th Arty Regt was located at CHINNAM PO, along with its 3rd Bn. The 3rd Bn consists of the 7th, 8th and the 9th companies, forty-eight (48) troops and four (4) guns (76mm) to each company.
Main duty of 918th Arty Regt was to defend the coastal area.
Up till 24 August 1950, before PW left with his Bn, there was an engineer unit at CHINNAM PO. PW could not estimate troop strength, however, he believed it to have been a Regt.
