PW seemed intelligent. He was cooperative and willing to talk. He was wearing civilian clothing at time of capture. Reliability -- Good
3. MILITARY HISTORY:Inducted 10 Jul 50 at PYONGYANG (平壤) and attached to 18th Div, 506th Arty Regt, Regt HQ Co, Communication Plt.
Basic load of each man was 1 rifle and 120 rds of ammo and 2 hand grenades.
HQ of the 18th Div was located in KYONG KI (京畿) Middle School in SEOUL.
The 506th Arty Regt was stationed at PYONGYANG (平壤) until 29 Aug 50. Then moved to CHONG RYANG LEE (淸養里) in SEOUL by truck.
This unit left SEOUL on 19 Sep 50 and arrived in YONG DONG PO (永登浦) on same day and engaged in battle. Unit is believed to be retreating toward SEOUL.
Circumstance of Capture: PW deserted from his unit and surrendered to the 1st Marines.

5. FOREIGN ELEMENTS:Subject observed 3 Russian officers in the 506th Regt. These officers were Lt Colonels. They wore dark crimson epaulets with artillery insignia.
They served as propaganda, military and supply advisors with the unit. They remained with the 506th Regt until 29 Aug 50.
6. CODE NUMBERS:Since PW was tele-com operator, he knows some unit code names.

Strength of the 506th Arty Ragt was about 800 men.

8. AMMUNITION:All Arty, vehicles, ammo and supplies were left behind in CHONG RYANG LEE (林業試驗場) in SEOUL.
30 boxes of Arty shells (each contained 6 shells) and huge quantities of hand grenades and machine gun ammo were observed there.
9. FOOD:3 meals per day consisting of 1 rice ball per meal. The unit food was supplied by truck. Most of the losses of weapons and equipment were due to artillery.
10. DISPOSITION OF WOUNDED:Abandoned. Stragglers shot to death.
11. ENEMY INTENTIONS:Mission of the 506th Regt was to defend INCHON and SEOUL.
12. MORALE:Morale of the 506th Regt was low because they saw their forward units retreating.
13. US PW’s:PW observed 7 captured US soldiers in fatigue uniform getting off from PW train at PYONGYANG RR Station on 2 Jul 50.
They were believed tq be shipped in from southern front.
People in PYONGYANG were told to come out and see the captured Americans as they would be marched through the city as examples for interfering in other nation's disputes.
These captured Americans were believed to be taken to US prison in PYONGYANG.
14. GUERRILLA ACTIVITIES:PW stated that there are always GPU (MGB) units in every city as headquarters of guerrilla activities.
