FIELD REPORT (521 - MISD - 0045) 25 September 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. EVALUATION:
Subject was cooperative and spoke freely. Information obtained can be considered reliable. Captured in civilian clothes with friend.

3. LENGTH OF SERVICE:
6 months of service prior to capture.

4. PHYSICAL CONDITION: Good

5. MILITARY HISTORY:
Inducted 25th March, '50 at PYONG YANG (平壤) and was attached to the PYONG YANG transportation unit. Received no training with this unit. This unit was engaged in hauling food and clothing supplies from factories and warehouses to the PYONG YANG R.R. station. On 27 Jul, '50 subject and about 200 men of this unit were transferred to SEOUL where they were assigned to the SEOUL Transportation Unit. The movement was by train and marching only during the night.
The SEOUL Transportation Unit was equipped with 7 Russian made trucks (men were not armed). Strength was estimated to be approx 200 men. On 27 Aug, '50 the 107th Regt was organizer at SEOUL. On this date subject was transferred to the 2nd platoon, 3rd Co, 32nd Bn of the 107th Regt. The regt comprised of the 27th, 32nd and the 35th Bn. Strength of the regt was estimated to be approx 3,000 men. A colonel was in command of the regt. The 32nd Bn Commander was a Major.
An engineer platoon, a transportation platoon and 3 heavy machine gun companies were attached to the 107th Regt. The regt was also equipped with 30 (81mm) artillery guns. Each man was armed with a rifle and 20 to 30 rounds of ammunition.
On 27 Aug, '50 the 32nd Bn of the 107th Regt moved to CHONAN (天安) via PYONG YANG (平壤). The regt remained in SEOUL at this time. The 32nd Bn again left CHONAN on 2 Sept, '50 for KIM PO airfield and Arrived here on 22 Sept, '50 after 21 days of marching only during the night.
Subject states that he deserted his unit near KIM PO airfield. However, believes that the 32nd Bn has been annihilated at this point.
Subject observed 5 Russian made heavy and light tanks while at PYONG YANG (平壤).

6. FOREIGN ELEMENTS:
During the period 25 March, '50 to 27 Jul, '50 at PYONG YANG (平壤), subject observed about 10 Russian officers and many Russian civilians, (about 50) supervising military training and also supervising and working in factories (officers were believed to be company grade officers as identified in Red Army book). Also observed about 5 Russian medical officers working at the PYONG YANG Red Cross Hospital.
When subject left PYONG YANG on 27 Jul, '50 these Russians, officers and civilians remained in PYONG YANG. Majority of the Russian civilians were well dressed females walking around term daily.

7. US PWs:
During the period 10 Jul, 150 to 15 Jul, '50 at PYONG YANG, subject entered the US PW camp twice hauling food for the PWs.
This PW Camp was located approx 1 km N of the NK Central Government Bldg., and about 2 km S E of the west PYONG YANG R, R, Station. The prison, a 2 story high concrete structure was painted red (15 X 7 mrs).
Subject believes that there were about 100 US PWs interned here. PW were fed 3 meals daily, a handful of rice, a piece of breed (Russian bread) and a bowl of soup for each meal. Also were given 10 Korean cigarettes per man daily. When subject entered the prison, PWs were not engaged in any work. Building interior and further treatment was unknown. Observed no wounded US PWs at this prison. Frequently observed high ranking NK government officers entering the prison.
Subject states that the treatment here was rather poor.
