PW was cooperative. However, no information of value was available.
3. MILITARY HISTORY:Inducted on 7 Aug 50 at SARI WON (沙里院) and attached to the 98th Regt, 7th Bn, Transportation Platoon. Average soldier was not issued rifle or ammunition. Only NCOs were equipped with rifles and 5 rounds of ammunition.
Movement of Unit: The 98th Regt, 7th Bn was stationed in SARI WON (沙里院) until 5 Sep 50. Left SARI WON 5 Sep 50 and arrived SEOUL 12 Sep 50. Traveled by train and marching at night. Left SEOUL 13 Sep 50 for TAEJON (大田).
Circumstances of Capture: As soon as PW heard that the 98th Regt would leave SEOUL for TAEJON (大田) on 13 Sep 50, he deserted with 2 other men and headed for KAESONG (開城). He was captured near SU SEK (水色).
Unit Organization: The 98th Regt was composed of 10 battalions numbered from 1 to 10. There were 7 companies in each battalion and 4 platoons in each company. Strength of the 98th Regt was approx 7,000 men.
4. ENEMY INTENTION:Objective --- To defend TAEJON area
5. MORALE:Morale of the 98th Regt was very low and everybody wanted to desert, because they did not like the way they were treated by the communists. Feed consisted of 2 or 3 meals per day 1 rice ball per meal.
