1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Attitude: Cooperative, talked freely and willingly.

Physical Condition: Good
Reliability: Good

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
4 Dec 50 – Conscripted into NKA at KANBONG-RI and assigned to the 7th Div, 3d Regt, 3d Bn, 7th Co, 1st Plat, 2d Sqd.
5 Dec 50 - 7th Div left KUNBONG-RI and arr PYONGYANG 20 Dec 50 by marching through mountain passes in single file at night.
o/a 26 Dec 50 - 7th Div left PYONGYANG and arr HOENGSONG 25 Jan 51 by marching through mountains at night.
o/a 6 Feb 51 – Div was attacked near HOENGSONG by ROK unit, and forced to retreat about 20 km to N.
o/a 10 Feb 51 – CCF began the 3d general attack and 7th Div followed CCF and advanced to ANHUNG.
o/a 18 Feb 51 – Div was engaged in battle and nearly annihilated about 8 km S of ANHUNG.
o/a 23 Feb 51 – Deserted his unit and hid in small house until he had opportunity to surrender.
27 Feb 51 – Surrendered to ROK 3d Div, 3d Regt at ANHUNG.

b. Organization:
V Corps consisted of the 6th, 7th, and 12th NK Div.
7th Div consisted of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Regt.
3d Regt consisted of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Bn, HMG Co, and 82mm Mortar Co.

c. Strength & Weapons:

d. Supply:
Food: Food for the 7th Div was procured locally. No food supply from rear or food depots.
2 meals per day, mainly of rice and bean soup. Each man always carried own ration for 3 days for emergency. Hearsay – 3000 tons of rice arr in KOREA from CHINA for NKA use.
Clothing: 5 Jan 51 – Chinese-made cotton quilted winter uniforms were issued to each man of 7th Div.
19 Jan 51 – Chinese-made canvas shoes were issued to each man.
Shipment of summer clothing from CHINA is on the way.
Ammunition: (in 3d Bn)
25 Dec 50 – Approx 500 rd mortar shells were issued and each man carried 2 shells. All were used up at HOENGSONG.
No re-issue of mortar shells was made.
Mortars could not be used at ANHUNG.
4 Dec 50 – 20 rd of rifle ammo were issued to each man.
18 Dec 50 – Additional 200 rd of rifle ammo were issued to each man.
10 Jan 51 – Additional 150 rd of rifle ammo were issued to each man.
15 Feb 51 – 250 to 300 rd of rifle ammo were issued to each man.
Note: Whenever they had to retreat, most threw away 100 to 150 rd.
Civilians were employed in transportation of ammo on their backs from rear to front unit.
Each man was issued 2 hand grenades 10 Jan 51.
LMG ammo: 3,000

e. Medicine:
No medicine, therefore no treatment was given to wounded or recent epidemic patients. They were shipped to rear.
Heard from another man in same Co that shipment of medicine arr in NK from CZECHOSLOVAKIA recently.

f. Personalities:
CHAE, Chin Gu, 40, Maj, 3d Bn CO, 3d Regt. 7th Div, last seen 23 Feb 51 at ANHUNG.

g. Intention:
Mission of 7th Div was to cut off MSR by infiltrating into UN lines.

h. Morale:
Morale of EM in 7th Div was extremely low. 70% of them are seeking opportunity to desert and surrender because of inadequate food and because they are demoralized by intense shelling and bombings.
