a. Chronology:
6 Jul 50 Conscripted at SINUIJU, assigned to 3236th Security Unit and performed guard duty. Received no military training.
O/a 10 Oct 50 PW and several others assigned to 7th Div at KOSUNGKUN.
O/a 25 Nov 50 7th Div strength approx 2,000, arrived PYONGYANG. Troops issued M-1 rifles’ carbines with 200 rd, Russ rifles with 200 rd, and two hand grenades each.
O/a 6 Dec 50 Div departed PYONGYANG on foot.
O/a 15 Jan 51 Arrived HOENGSONG. While enroute (or possibly at PYONGYANG) the division assimilated 500 stragglers and increased total strength to 2,500 men. While at HOENGSONG units received anti-US propaganda indoctrination and performed guard duty mostly.
10 Feb 51 Entire div departed HOENGSONG.
12 Feb 51 Arrived 24 km SE of HOENGSONG. Div formed a defense line.
21 Feb 51 3d Regt engaged UN troops in vicinity of above area and fought continuously for two days and suffered heavy casualties.
23 Feb 51 Regt practically annihilated, withdrew 8 km to rear N and joined 1st and 2d regt, and Div Hq to regroup. Original strength of 2,500 (div) had been decreased to about 800. Majority killed or wounded in action.
232300 Feb 51 The regrouped 7th Div, strength about 800, withdrew an additional 4 km to the rear N and formed a defense line which extended E to W about 1.5 km in length across two fairly high mountains located in the above area.
250900 Feb 51 3d Regt position was attacked by UN troops. 2200 hr, 3d Regt abandoned its position and withdrew N. PW remained in fox hole and deserted.
1 Mar 51 Captured 20 km E of HOENGSONG by 3d ROK Div.
