FIELD REPORT (164 MISDI 0515) 5 March 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: I, Tsu Wan
RANK: Pvt

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was transferred to the comm co about 10 days ago due to the shortage of personnel in that co. Appeared tired and weak from lack of food and night marches. Cooperative but information limited. Reliability is good.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Personnel, Weapons and Equipment:
3 Mar 51, the comm co (50 men) had 1 radio and 4 field telephones; 6 PPSH SMG, approx 20 US M-1 rifles and 20 Russ rifles.

b. Communication:
About a week ago, heard the radio operator repeat the following words over the radio “CHAN BAEK SAN, CHAN BAEK SAN, this is PAEKTUSAN.” Heard no message relayed.

c. Supply:
O/a 26 Feb 51, each man in the comm co received 2 hand grenades and 200 rd rifle ammo. Grenades and ammo were passed out by sqd ldr. About 70% of troops received black canvas shoes and a special ration of about 1/3 kilogram of pork per man. The Co CO and plat ldr told the men that this was a gift from Chinese people, and that they should fight more than ever from then on, and with CCF on their side there was nothing to fear, that the final victory would be theirs.

d. 4th Phase Operation:
About 10 days ago the plat ldr told the men that 4th phase offensive would start in about 45 days at which time, with the aid of planes and tanks, they would carry out a decisive offensive and annihilate the UN Forces.

e. Psychological Warfare:
Safe conduct or surrender leaflets have no effect on troops because they are repeatedly told they will be killed upon capture.
