a. Organization and Strength: (present)
PW was member of 42d Army which consisted of 124th, 125th, and 126th Div. 126th Div is composed of 376th, 377th, 378th Regt. 378th Regt is composed of 1st, 2d, and 3d Bn. 3d Bn is composed of the 7th, 8th, and 9th Co, with each company having a present strength of approx 75 men. Besides the 3 Co there is a heavy weapons co. 9th Co is composed of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Plat and an attached 60mm mortar plat. Each plat has approx 13 men.
b. Replacements:
PW heard from a political officer that during the early part of Jan 51, 2 men from each company in the 378th Regt went to CHINA to obtain replacements. The 2 men from each company were to bring back with them one company of replacements within one month. To date none had arrived.
c. Elements of Other Units:
While 80km N of the 38th parallel 2-3 months ago, PW talked with some soldiers from a group of 700-800 who stated they were troops of the 3d Field Army.
They were marching S. He talked with them because they wore a different type of uniform than his. Their uniforms did not have the “quilt pattern” effect, but had buttons up the center and collars similar to the US field jacket.
