1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

PLACE AND DATE CAPTURED, SURRENDERED: On 020700 Mar 51 surrendered to 1st Bn, 5th Cav vic Hill 318 (CS869551).

2. ASSESMENT:
Information limited. It is believed PW is confused therefore
credibility of information is doubtful.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. TO/E Disposition:
Organization and Strength:
42d Army composed of 124th, 125th, and 126th Div. 125th Div composed of 373d, 374th, 375th Regt, an Arty Bn, a Security Bn, a Stretcher Bn and other units. 375th Regt composed of 3 Rifle Bn, a Jap M92 Gun Company, an 82mm Mortar Co, a Security Co, and a Signal Unit. 3d Bn composed of 3 Rifle Companies, a HMG Co and 82mm Mortar Plat.
9th Co strength 50 men when he and 14 others were transferred in as replacements.

b. Deployment of PW Own Unit:
1 Mar 51, 9th Co deployed at Hill 318 on W slope about half way up the hill. 6th Co, 2d Bn deployed on the same hill in front of 9th Co. According to preliminary interrogation by SABER IPW team, PW states Bn CP located 3 km N of Hill 318. Regt model 92 (Jap) Gun Co was in a ravine (CS910600) 6 km NE of Hill 341 on the E side of the road (running between YONGDU-RI (CS362565) and YANGDOGWON-NI (CS915635).

c. Status of Arms, Ammo:
1 Mar 51, 9th Co armed with the following:
27 US carbines 50 rd each
6 LMG 300 rd each
US SMG M-3
2 60mm Mortars 15rd each
4 Handgrenades per man
20 horses and oxen brought unk amount of ammo 10 days ago.
1 Mar 51, at Hill 341 with 14 others, received carbines and 40 rd of ammo.
Regt Arty Company had 2 x 92 model guns with 60 rd each 5 days ago.

d. Status of Food and Clothing:
20 days ago 375th Regt issued shoes. Food confiscated from villages as they came south.

e. Chronology:
PW was in CNA Security Unit, 2d Brigade and was captured by CCF, May 50 in central CHINA. Immediately, assigned to 375th Regt, Arty Co of 42d Army as a stable man. Company, with 375th Regt marched across YALU River 15 Oct 50. Regiment arrived at TAECHON 4 Nov after 20 days of marching from the YALU River where they rested for 15 days. Regiment headed southward crossing the 38th Parallel and KAESONG and arriving at SHUYA-RI, 13 Jan 51, where it was stationed for over a month to construct defense position. 27 Feb 51 with 14 others transferred from Arty Co to 9th Co, 3d Bn, 375th Regt as replacements at a place believed to be Hill 341 (CS853587). 2 days later on 1 Mar 51, 9th Co ordered to head for Hill 318 (CS869551). Heard from Co CO they were to support 6th Co of 2d Bn which was under attack. 9th Co immediately engaged enemy for one day and was disorganized by UN arty bombardment and ground attack. Hid on Hill 318 and gave himself up to 5th Cav 020700 Mar 51.

f. Mission and Intention:
Mission of 9th Co to reinforce 5th Co and stop the UN advance.

g. Personalities:
CHONG (fnu) (陳), 31, Co Reg Arty Btry.
WANG (fnu) (王), 27, Adviser of the CO in the Regt Arty Btry.

h. Other Information:
Physical Condition of Troops:
Majority of troops suffered from frostbite and stomach disorders.
Special Information:
6th Co annihilated 1 Mar 51 at Hill 318. 9th Co received about 50% casualties by heavy UN arty and air bombardment.
Surrender Leaflets:
Picked up surrender leaflets at SHUYA-RI but because of lack of education he was unable to read it and had it explained by a friend. Heard air broadcast and stated that it was clear enough to understand.
