2. ASSESSMENT:
Reliability: Good
2 yr with CNA
Cooperative and spoke freely.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Strength and Weapons

4 HMG in Co (2 unserviceable)
No rifles in HMG Co.

b. Supply
24 Feb 51 – HMG Co received 1,000 rd ammo. Ammo boxes hauled by Korean civilians.
40 days ago – Each man received a towel and a pair of canvas shoes.

c. Morale
50% of troops are former members of CNA. Morale low, no alternative but to fight because of constant vigil by the officers. Safe conduct or surrender leaflets have no effect due to thorough indoctrination.

d. Replacements
About a month ago, the CO, exec officer and political officer of HMG Co dep for MANCHURIA to pick up replacements. Assistant political officer is acting CO.

e. Recuperation
Prior to departure of above officers, HMG Co was assembled and told by CO that the CCF was taking a 2 months’ rest because there were too many cases of frostbite and that spring offensive will start as soon as replacements arrive and the weather gets warm.

f. Most feared weapons
Jet planes are most feared because they drop napalm bombs first, causing those hiding in holes to get out, thus exposing themselves to strafing.

g. Artillery
Observed 3 mt guns disassembled and loaded on mules while heading S.

h. Transportation
Observed a few trucks while N of 38th Parallel.
