Cooperative and talked freely. He was a medical aid officer and administered first aid to minor cases only.
Information fairly reliable.
a. Chronology:
Inducted in CNA Feb 47 at CHILIN (吉林) and assigned to the 71st Army, medical department. Enrolled in medical school for a period of 3 months; no rank conferred upon graduating.
Captured Sep 48 by the CCF at SHENYANG (瀋陽) when his unit was over-run. Sent to a medical school for one month, and after graduation, assigned to the 38th Army, 114th Div, 342d Regt, 1st Bn, Independent Medical Unit as an aid man. PW graduated with approx 100 students.
During Oct 48, departed with 38th Army to TIENCHIN (天津), arriving after twenty days of marching. 38th Army battled with the CNA, and after 3 days, victoriously marched to YUNGCHING HSIEN (永淸縣), arriving two days later. 38th Army recuperated here for about 2 months and then departed for CH’ANG TE HSIEN (常德縣) arriving forty days later. Here, the PW contracted Malaria and was sent to a hospital in PIYANG HSIEN (汝陽縣).
Aug 50, released from the hospital and proceeded to KAIYUAN HSIEN (開原縣) by rail, arriving fifteen days later. Here, assigned to the 38th Army, 114th Div, 342d Regt, Independent Medical Unit as a medical aid man.
In Sep 50, transferred to the Medical Unit of the HMG Co, 2d Bn, 342d Regt, 114th Division. A few days later promoted to the rank of asst Platoon Leader (2d Lt).
During late Oct 50, departed with the entire 38th Army by rail to CHIAN (輯安), arriving two days later. Army detrained here, and during darkness, the 2d Battalion of the 342d Regt, 114th Division crossed the YALU River by rail into North KOREA. Battalion detrained at a small station after about ten hours travelling. Battalion then proceeded southward independently, via mountain routes and arrived in the vicinity of the 38th parallel during late Dec 50. Here, rejoined the 114th Division.
1 Jan 51, the 114th Division crossed the 38th parallel and proceeded south and arrived in the vicinity of CHO-RI (CS 4958) o/a 18 Feb 51. Division was to defend the area at all costs.
6 Mar 51, deserted his unit and voluntarily surrendered to the 27th RCT 7 Mar 51.

d. Replacements:
2d Bn, 342d Regt, 114th Division received approx 50 replacements 23 Feb 51 at CHO-RI (CS 4958). Heard that these were derived from a replacement unit which arrived in KOREA from HUPEI SHENG (湖北省). Replacements were unarmed.
e. Food, Ammo and Other Supplies:
Troops received approx 7 Kg of flour mixed with powdered rice, corn, and beans once a week. This was mixed with water into a paste and was eaten in this form. No other food was received.
Ammo supply has not been replenished.
f. Signal:
Battalion and higher echelon unit used telephones; lower echelon units used runners.
g. Morale:
Morale of the troops was low because of insufficient amount of food, clothing, and weapons.
h. Medical:
There were a few cases of frozen feet. These were bandaged and were evacuated to the rear on litters.
i. Psychological Warfare:
PW voluntarily surrendered because he valued his life. Observed many leaflets which told him that he would not be killed, but instead, would receive good treatment and food. He surrendered at the first opportunity.
