3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
25 Aug 50 – Conscripted at SEOUL; no training received; assigned to 8th Div, Hq 3d Regt NKA.
5 Sep 50 - 8th Div arrived YONGCHON, S KOREA.
15 Sep 50 – Deserted his unit when 8th Div was retreating northward in vicinity of YONGCHON.
Mid Nov 50 – Fled from UN Forces to KARYOJU; reassigned to 27th Div, 32d Regt, Hq 3d Bn. 6th and 12th Div were also in this area (total number of troops – approx 2,500).
13 Jan 51 – 32d Regt by-passed CHORWON.
Late Jan 51 – Crossed 38th Parallel.
18 Feb 51 – Arrived vicinity of MANJONG NI (DS 0435) via CHUNCHON, HONGCHON and HOENGSONG.
23 Feb 51 - 27th Div arrived at TAEHWA (approx 16 km N of PYONGCHANG).
25 Feb 51 – 32d Regt was deployed to PYONGCHANG area. Other regt remained near TAEHWA.
27 Feb 51 – While Regt advanced southward from PYONGCHANG, at approx 12 km S PW fell out due to frost-bitten feet and reported to the 27th Div Hosp. Since medical treatment was refused, PW deserted. Div Hosp was then situated in village houses along the main road, 8 km S of PYONGCHANG.
2 Mar 51 – Captured by 17th RCT.

Inadequate; locally procured; usually ate twice daily. Troops always carried two days’ ration (rice & millet) as emergency supply. However, these were consumed when food could not be foraged locally.

e. Replacements:
11 Feb 51, 3d Bn, 32d Regt, received approx 20 replacements from 38th Div. 32d Regt was believed to have received about 40 troops.

f. Morale:
Morale was low due to bitter weather and lack of food, troops were in low spirit. Some did not desire this war.
Troops completely ignored US safe conduct leaflets because they feared the strict, watchful eyes of officers.
Friction between officers and EM: None; even joked casually among each other.
