3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
4 Jan 51 - PW was reassigned to III Corps, Food Supply Section at KUMHWA.
19 Jan 51 - Corps arrived at PANGNIM NI (DS 4943).
22 Jan 51 - PW and 3 others were dispatched by their section to PYONGCHON (DS 4635). Their mission was to find rice supply in PYONGCHON area.
23 Jan 51 - PW and one other were captured by 32d RCT.

b. Political Indoctrination
PW was formerly a political officer in 1st Co, 1st Bn, 8th Regt. Gave outlines of lectured to Plat Ldr. Plat Ldr gave a lecture to their platoons every day for an hour, whenever the unit was not on a march. All Co political officers were lectured on subjects by Bn political officers.
Following are subjects given by PW to platoon ldr.
(1) Care of weapons. Care for it as if it were a part of you.
(2) The NKA will fight to the last man, with full cooperation from Korean people. Although UN Forces are superior in fire power and equipment and we don’t have any planes, we will win the final victory.
(3) We are the People’s Army, therefore we must behave at all times. The people must be treated with respect and will not be abused.
(4) PW will be given humane treatment and will not be abused. Offenders will be reprimanded, and if repeated, will be subject to possible death sentence.
(5) Troops will stay under cover while resting. No unnecessary moving about allowed. To prevent detection by enemy aircraft of troop concentration.
(6) Anyone finding a wounded or sick man will escort or carry him to nearest aid station.
(7) Conservation of food will be carried out to maximum, due to the fact that food supply is critical.

c. Bombing
25 Dec 50, PW Regt was bombed near HAMHUNG. They were attacked by 4 bombers, with napalm bombs. Approx 25 men were killed and 5 wounded by four napalm bombs. All in houses were burned to death. Napalm bombs were most feared by troops.
Strafing by jet fighters was also feared greatly, due to the fact that troops could not detect its approach because of jet’s speed.

d. Bridge
Observed a 20m long concrete bridge approx 21/2 kilometers NE of PANGNIM NI (DS 4943). Bridge was intact. Since the water in river was shallow, construction of a detour was possible.
