PW was cooperative and information considered fairly reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.
a. Organization and Strength (present):
42d Army composed of the 124th, 125th and 126th Div. 126th Div composed of 376th, 377th and 378th Regt. 377th Regt composed of three Rifle Bn, one 92mm Arty Btry, Mt Gun Btry, Heavy Mortar Co (122mm), 81mm Mortar Co and Security Co. Original strength of the 377th Regt, when it departed for combat o/a 12 Oct 51, was believed about 2, 300 men. However, at the present, the strength of the unit is about 900 men. Decrease in strength was caused mainly by artillery bombardment and frostbite.
As of 21 Feb 51, HMG Co, to which he was assigned, had about 60 men, whereas their original strength was 184 men.
b. Deployment of PW Own Unit (present):
Believed the 377th Regt was deployed in the vic of Hill 527 (CS8753). Regt arrived at the Hill 527 area o/a 18 Feb 51.
c. Deployment of Other Units:
38th and the 39th Armies were deployed in the areas south of the HAN River. O/a 17 Feb 51, PW talked to some troops of the 40th Army who were deployed in the vic (CS9055).
PW believes the 40th Army to be to the rear of the 42d Army.
d. Mission and Intention:
Did not know the exact mission of the 377th Regt, but heard from fellow officers that they were to repel all UN forces approaching Hill 527.
O/a 20 Feb, PW told by Bn Political officer that the 38th, 39th, 40th and 42d Armies were to withdraw to the rear to await replacements and then would commence their attack. 377th Regt withdrew from vic Hill 527 in a northeast direction o/a 22 Feb 51.
O/a 21 Feb, PW told by Bn political officer that replacements, about the size of an Army group, were to come from ANTUNG, MANCHURIA within four or five days.
